We had the good fortune of connecting with Judy Hiep and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Judy, what do you attribute your success to?

The most important factor to my success is consistency, quality of work and being ethical.

Consistency needs to be across the board. People appreciate knowledge and knowing what to expect. We educate our client’s to help them understand the process of the service we are providing. Together we can make the best choice for their lifestyle and everyday routine.

Any stylist can make you look fabulous when you walk out of a salon, the key is to make sure your client can replicate the same look without you. We are not with them 24/7 and they are your walking portfolio.

Being honest and ethical has helped me over the years. I believe if you are ethical and honest you will not only have a loyal client, but a life long relationship.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I think what sets me apart is: I love to tell my client’s the process, keep them in the loop as I do my work. I always have my client’s best interest their hair regardless of what they want. If I can’t achieve something, I will be realistic and inform them.

I won’t provide service just because it is a job or for money. If I feel it will damage your hair, I will send you home or prep your hair to work towards that goal together.

I am honest in what I can and cannot do. We pride ourselves on providing a good experience with quality products. We are honest with our suggestions, and strive to always do right by our clients. Our salon has a 7 day policy, if you are not happy with your service, we will try our best in accommodating your requests within that time frame.

Our priority is to make sure you leave feeling happy and more confident than when you came in.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

My Mom, she is my biggest supporter & #1 Fan. She’s worked hard starting from a young age and never complained about anything. She always handled her business. She was a problem solver and does not have an ounce of negativity in her blood. Her resilience is what I admire most.

I lost my dad as a teenager. She raised me and my 3 older brother on her own, without the assistance of welfare and made sure she was able to put food on the table.

And not just any food,  we always had home cooked, family style dinner.  The full spread for all our meals: pot of soup, dish of vegetables, protein, rice and fruits.

On top that off, she would also drop me off and pick me up from Lincoln Heights to Universal Studios for my first job at Universal City Walk, Haagen Dazs Ice Cream. I worked 4-6 hour shifts because I was still underage. I think minimum wage must have been 5.25 /hr. at the time.

She didn’t do that because I was making money. She did it to teach me the value of a dollar and to learn self discipline and hardworking.

She was not the typical Asian mom. She never once told me that my job/career was not worthy or that it wasn’t good enough.

Her response would be: try it, you don’t know until you try it out. She said to do what you have a passion for, money is secondary.

Passion will bring a lifetime of happiness. Money will only get you so far and your heart will not be fulfilled.

My family & friends were always a good cheerleader and were always there to push me through the rough times. Whether it was a lending hand, monetary or mental support, they were always there for me when I needed them. You all know who you are. I am forever thankful and could not have done it without the love from every one of you.
