We had the good fortune of connecting with Julana Dizon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julana, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued a creative career in Entertainment for the sole purpose of a better lifestyle. Before this, I had a 9-5 full-time job. It felt so unfair to spend the majority of my life working for others in order to pay my bills and fund my dreams, and often left me so exhausted that I didn’t have the time or energy to actually do anything I wanted. Once I began modeling and blogging, it gave me the chance to work on my own terms. I am now able to make more money, have more free time, and even get paid to travel! Plus, I control my whole life schedule now. I vacation when I want, work when I want, and spend almost every day out enjoying the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began my career in Modeling & Entertainment back in 2013 after answering a Craigslist ad for a talent agency. At the time, I was working as an animal trainer in Florida, loving my job but hating the long hours. As modeling started to take off, I eventually quit my job and pursued my new career. A big reason for my early success was my willingness to work, no matter how big or small the job was. I’ll never forget my first booking as an extra in a Checkers commercial. It was an 8-hr overnight shoot and they paid us $50, which is AWFUL. I would never agree to that now, but it’s so important to be humble and eager to work at the beginning of any career path. You have to start from the bottom to really learn the industry, build connections, and gain experience. Now, 8 years later, my career has taken me all over the world, I’ve booked several major campaigns, and even have a few national commercials running. I’ve taken all the experience I’ve learned over the years and applied it to my own social media channels. I can now plan, shoot, edit, and market my own content. It’s a lot of work, but it’s the best way to learn!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots and things to do in LA are Griffth Park and Observatory (hike up from the bottom), the Melrose Flea Market (find the guy who sells people old photos, they are hilarious to look at), Hike Wisdom Tree, and shop at the Grove.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to Monica of @MoniCanEat . Not only is she one of my best friends, but she is also a successful food blogger in Austin, TX. We encouraged each other to start blogs at the same time and she played a huge part in keeping me accountable and helping me through unknown territory!
