We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Gladchenko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned in my career is to focus on my own progress, not someone else’s. We are all different, and you might never know what they had to go through to get where they are. I like to compare progress to flowers. We usually see the bloom on top, but we don’t know how much time it took to get there, how much effort it took to ground the roots, grow the stem, and then how long and tedious it was for the flower to open. We see the result and compare our work with that, but there is so much more beneath the surface that we can’t see or judge.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an actress, creative producer, and recently, a songwriter! I came to America to pursue an acting career and graduated from AMDA College of the Performing Arts. Acting is one of my greatest passions, and nothing brings me more joy. I am incredibly grateful to do what I love, knowing my work brings joy and excitement to others.

I played a lead role in the psychedelic short film “Training Wheels,” which is set to make a big splash at festivals this year, and I’m thrilled about it! I had the opportunity to work with ANEU Media Group on the feature film “The Picture.” Additionally, I collaborated on a web series with one of YouTube’s most successful creators, Sameer Bhvnani, who has 1.8 million followers.

I love creating with people who want to change the industry and make something meaningful. That’s why I always support students from film schools in LA. I had the chance to work with AFI students on the wonderful project “Platinum.”

To be honest, things have been slower than I expected recently. I got frustrated, but I turned it into a positive outcome by starting to write and produce songs about my experiences. It has brought me so much joy and excitement. Right now, I’m working on the production of these songs, and I will release them this fall! I’m so excited about what’s coming!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a huge coffee person, so I judge a city by its coffee spots! My favorites are “Maru” in Los Feliz, “Verve Coffee” in WeHo and La Brea, and “Pantheon” in WeHo. I’m not big on eating out, but one place I would go to every day is “Mom, Please,” a Ukrainian restaurant on La Brea. If you ever go, try the vareniki, borscht, and syrniki! My heritage is Ukrainian, so I know what I’m saying. I highly recommend this place. Another great spot with wonderful Mexican food is El Coyote—it’s authentic and delicious.

For walking, I’d take a friend to the Beverly Hills promenade, the Farmers Market at The Grove, and The Getty Villa. I’d also suggest a day trip to Manhattan Beach, where you can walk around cute stores downtown, visit the free aquarium on the pier, and watch dolphins swim with lots of surfers.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest shoutout goes to my parents, who support me in every step I take and provide everything I need. They are my biggest supporters and the greatest gift in my life. I also want to give a shoutout to my friends all over the globe who listen to multiple versions of my demo tracks, watch my self-tapes, and give me the best feedback. Additionally, a shoutout to all the artists in LA who don’t give up, even when they feel like it—they inspire me to keep going!
