Meet Julian and Cameron Harrison | Equestrian Show jumpers

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julian and Cameron Harrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julian and Cameron, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We have been riding horses since 2020 during the height of the pandemic. As our love for working with our horses and competing began to grow, we thought that it would be great if we
could start sharing that with other kids our age. We asked our mom to help start running our
social media, but we get to come up with a lot of the video ideas. Now, our brand “The Harrison
Bros,” has expanded to Instagram, YouTube and TikTok with almost 100,000 viewers combined!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Cameron: Before English Equestrian riding, we struggled a lot with ADHD at home and in school. At one time, it used to be a struggle for us to get through small tasks. But during the COVID-19
pandemic, our mom took a big risk. She took us off our ADHD medication and put us in
horseback riding. Now, getting up early and having a schedule every day has helped with our
commitment and concentration. We’re getting great reports from our teachers and have even
started an equestrian league (IEL) at our school.
Julian: Another thing that’s really important to us, is to show other kids our age that riding is
possible – especially other young, black men. When we first started riding, there weren’t many
other people that looked like us at the stables. We felt like it was important to share our hard
work and help encourage other students from all different backgrounds to think about showing.
Cameron: I don’t think there’s any risk without reward. In order for your to be successful, you
have to take chances. Sometimes they work out and other times they don’t, but what’s
important is that you learn throughout the process.
Julian: Agree. There’s no doubt that sometimes it’s scary when you’re trying something new.
Especially because you might fail and lose some money or time. But at the end of the day, we
have our moms supporting us and that’s all we could ask for.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Cameron: I would probably suggest we go do an escape room somewhere in the city, since there are so many I still haven’t done, but that is definitely one of my favorite activities to do
with friends and family and it’s always a super fun time.
Julian: I’d have to say the same, escape rooms are at the top of the list when it comes to finding
a fun activity to do. Lately we’ve been going to Cheesecake Factory after we finish a room, just
as a fun debrief and dinner to wrap the day up so we’d probably do that too.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to give a big shoutout to our Grandma, first off because she is simply amazing. She’s passed down this incredible “Harrison mentality” to us, and it’s made all the difference. It’s not just about hard work. This mentality is deeper than that, it’s a real sense of worth ethic. She has always shown us that hard work isn’t just about getting things done, but it’s about putting our heart and soul into everything we do. Whether it’s a simple task or cooking up our favorite coffee cake desert, she’s always done it with an undeniable passion that’s truly inspiring and has been passed all the way down to us. She has instilled in us this belief that we’re capable of anything if we’re willing to put in the effort. That’s the Harrison mentality, it’s about recognizing our own worth and knowing that we can achieve anything with dedication and perseverance. So, thank you, Grandma, for being the shining example of what it means to have a Harrison mentality. You’ve shown us the power of hard work and the importance of believing in ourselves, and for that, we’re forever grateful.
