We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Boardman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I grew up in an entrepreneurial family and like to think of myself as a bit of a “disruptor” — meaning I like to break the mold or create where something didn’t exist before. It seemed odd to me that there wasn’t a museum dedicated to Broadway when Broadway is the heartbeat of NYC and a major reason tourists visit the city. Now it is even more meaningful to bring the Museum of Broadway to life as NYC continues to rebuild after covid.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that the arts help in fostering empathy in our society, and have always been passionate about the arts, Broadway and arts advocacy, as well as fascinated by history. These beliefs come through not only in the Museum of Broadway, but also in the Broadway plays and musicals I choose to co-produce.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends come to visit me in NYC I love taking them to Hunt & Fish club for dinner and to Hold Fast, The Friki Tiki or Dear Irving on Hudson for a pre or post show drink!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shout out our entire amazing team at the Museum of Broadway! Each person brings valuable insight and experience to the team and helped shape it into what it has become today.
