We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Crone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
As a mother and abstract artist, I’ve had to navigate the demands of both my personal and professional life. Over time, I’ve learned to prioritize my time and set boundaries to create a healthier work-life balance. After my father passed away, I realized how precious time is and made a conscious effort to invest more time in my art. I’ve found that creating allows me to express myself and recharge, which ultimately makes me a better parent and artist. Though it’s not always easy, I’m grateful for the opportunity to pursue my passion and be present for my family.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an abstract artist, I’m not afraid to take risks and explore new styles and techniques. It’s a challenging path, but I find immense fulfillment in pushing myself to create something new and unique. When collectors appreciate my vision and see the value in my work, it’s an incredible feeling of validation and motivates me to keep pushing forward. Their support allows me to continue creating and sharing my art with the world, and for that, I am deeply grateful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Newport Beach holds a special place in my heart and is one of my favorite places on the planet. There’s nothing quite like taking a stroll along the boardwalk and watching the surfers. The restaurants around Lido are always a treat – I love trying out new places and savoring the delicious food. Of course, no trip to Newport Beach would be complete without a visit to Roger’s Gardens, which I can’t get enough of – my friends tease me about my obsession! And a Duffy Ride around the bay is the perfect way to take in the stunning scenery and unwind. Finally, dinner at Sabatino’s is always a highlight. Milk and Cookies or Handles Ice Cream for dessert is always a big hit. Newport Beach truly has it all, and I feel lucky to be able to experience its beauty and charm.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To my amazing mom Laura – thank you for being my biggest supporter and encourager of my art since I was young. Your love and belief in me have helped me become the artist I am today. I am so grateful for all the sacrifices you made for me and for always being there to cheer me on.

To my wonderful husband Daryl – you are my rock, my confidant, and so much more. Your unwavering support and encouragement mean the world to me. Thank you for being there for me every step of the way, for your endless patience, and for being my tech support when I need it. I couldn’t do this without you, and I love you more than words can express.

To my amazing boys – I am so grateful for your love and support, and for being such an important part of my art journey. Your willingness to help me carry my artwork and materials to my studio means the world to me, and I am so proud of the kind, caring, and supportive young men you are becoming. Thank you for always being there for me, for inspiring me, and for making my life brighter and more beautiful every day. I love you all the mostest!
