Meet Julie Greene | Gallery Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Greene and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from the suburbs of Detroit. As with everyone, my background has had a huge impact on my career and who I am as a person. I think the principle that was ingrained in me that has helped me the most along my path has been integrity. Most people think integrity is doing things like honoring your word, showing up when you say you’re going to, and things of that nature. What was so special about the kind of integrity I learned was the integrity required to follow your heart. Staying true to myself, my passions, my beliefs, my ideas has always been a guiding force. You can’t fake real, and you can’t avoid your true self, so you might as well get to know that self and honor its calling.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I run an art gallery called Solstice Gallery. As with all of my endeavors, it came to me as a calling. I’ve always been drawn to art and music and after living through Covid and feeling a bit isolated, I felt a strong need to be surrounded by art, music and artists as much as possible. It just so happened that the gallery down the street from where I live was looking for someone to handle sales and marketing. Within 6 months I’ve managed to secure multiple shows with award-winning artists which will premier this Fall. My mission with Solistice Gallery is to work with artists who are breaking though new barriers of self-expression and crossing over into new genres of work. For example, one of our artists is a multiple grammy-award winning record producer and musician who is also an abstract photographer. Solstice will be presenting his visual art both in the gallery and online alongside an opening event where he will perform for guests and clients of the gallery. The challenges of course are many but I believe art is a very powerful, beautiful force to be shared and enjoyed and I simply do my best to get out of the way so that creativity and love can come through.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I move around a lot, but when I’m in LA I love going to some of my favorite spots in the city. I always have a guaranteed good time at Chateau Marmont. It’s probably not as cool anymore, but I also love The Dresden Room. I lived in Malibu for awhile as well so I always try to get out to the beach there. Neptune’s Net is super fun too. I’ve also had a fair share of memorable nights at the Wiltern.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt, I am continuously inspired, motivated and thankful for artists. I have had the great fortune to know many whether they are musicians or painters, photographers or writers. Its those people who are willing and able to express themselves in such a way as to uplight and inspire humanity that provide me with the ability to also hopefully do the same.
