Meet Julie Skon | Wellness Entrepreneur | Co-Founder Modern Muze

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Skon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The secret behind the success of Modern Muze is that it is a true partnership. Starting Modern Muze with my best friend and business partner, Zulay Henao, is what has propelled Modern Muze to go into our second year with exciting quarterly events on the calendar, fresh mindset elevating and disruptive content being created daily, partnerships and collaborations with inspiring humans and brands happening consistently, and we see the voice of Modern Muze making an impact.
I have my personal brand MY RITUELLE, and have had a successful product-based business in the past, however that has been a one-woman show, and what I have learned through Modern Muze is the power of having a true partnership. Zulay and I have unique opinions, individual ideas and experiences, strong voices to share, and we each bring different strengths to Modern Muze. We always say “it takes a village”, and it truly does, and this is the secret behind our success – doing it together.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I consider myself a Wellness Entrepreneur because my work revolves around creating content in many forms with the core value of creating something unique, something disruptive, that sparks something new in others, that shifts and up-levels mindset, that allows another to discover something new about themselves, and that connect them deeply within themselves and with others.
What I am most proud of when it comes to work is that I have walked the self-discovery journey of finding what I love and now I wake up and can’t wait to get creative and start my day. My best friend, Zulay Henao, and I are Co-Founders of Modern Muze, a multicultural multi-media platform that elevates women’s voices around the world through real conversations, events, and products (coming soon) revolving around our four pillars of Soul, Science, Sex, and Society. to work, grow, and learn with your best friend is truly a dream.
I also have my personal brand MY RITUELLE where I teach mindset healing and thriving practices (meditation, rituals, practices, methods) globally as well as offer limited private coaching. The balance between the two truly fulfills me.
Was it easy to get to this place? Absolutely not (said with a smile)! My work is my passion because it is born out of my personal story…I am a gun violence and sexual assault survivor and for the past 20 years have been on a mission to find and discover healing methods. Out of that seeking and learning for my own personal healing and growth, I am at a place where I can share, and teach, and lead, and support, and connect – and that feels incredible!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this question. It lights me up thinking about Los Angeles and all of the unique people and special places to visit within this city, especially as we open up more, I can’t wait to explore again what has been deeply missed.
I grew up in Minnesota and when friends visit from home we like to soak up the sunshine of the beach cities and get a taste of the local culture. Here are some of the favorite spots we go to: Take a walk on Broad beach in Malibu, stop for the skillet nachos and a glass of wine at Malibu Farm (I can’t stop thinking about those nachos!), go for a peaceful walk around Lake Shrine in the Palisades, check out the shops and eat as much as we can from the food trucks in Venice, and then dive more into the culture scene by taking unique classes from many of the unique and small businesses around Los Angeles. Eventbrite or mindbody are easy sites to find events (virtual and in-person) to mix it up and try something new.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to Dr. Erin Haskell. Dr. Erin taught me the tools to heal trauma and this process changed my mindset and my life.
