Meet Julius Gordon: Songwriter & Vocal Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julius Gordon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julius, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I had first moved to Los Angeles I did a lot of singing gigs around town. When I would go to a lot of the dress rehearsals it would take me no time to go through everything with the band because I had the language to communicate clearly what I needed to the musicians while the other musicians would struggle a bit. So I decided that I would provide a service where musicians can come and not only to learn how to be more proficient performers, but also come and acquire the knowledge to be able to navigate and thrive in professional settings.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
JG Music Education is a music coaching company that provides private and group lessons in voice, piano, guitar, songwriting and audio engineering. What sets us apart is how wellness is interwoven in our music training, specifically for our vocalists. We teach our students how the health of their bodies is tethered to the healthy use of their voice. We provide lots of fitness based events as well as classes teaching clients how to train their bodies to be able to move and still create clear and healthy sounds. Word of mouth got our business to where it is today, hands down! We don’t do a lot of advertisement, the majority of the new clients we get come from someone telling them that our methods are fun and effective. IT HAS NOT BEEN EASY IN THE LEAST! The challenges were overcome simply through introspection and trial and error. Always taking an objective look at everything we do and assessing what about it was effective and then adjusting our approach. Our company is a sponge, we’re always open to learning and I think that’s what keeps up thriving. What I’ve learned along the way is that service and kindness are the cornerstones of success. When people know you care about them and their progress they are more inclined to share your business with others. It’s that message that I’d like for the world to know. That becoming a JG Music Education client means joining a community of talented musicians and being guided by people that actually care about your success and you as a person. We strive to share love and light with the world, one musician at a time!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The best thing that I believe Los Angeles has to offer is its outside activities. There are so many amazing things to do outdoors here! I’d definitely take my friend hiking and to one of LA’s amazing beaches. Brunch culture is huge here and a few of my favorite spots are Perch and EP & LP.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to shoutout several people that I feel I would not have been successful without. First, my amazing parents. They have supported my creativity for as long as I can remember. My parents were the king and queen of creating opportunities so anytime I would get constant “no’s” or saw a void in a market that I knew I could fill, I did the same and created the opportunity instead of trying to fit in someone else’s mold. The next people that contributed to my success are my high school choir and English teachers. I was so close to both of them and still communicate with them to this day. They saw something in me and both nurtured my love for music and the written word, which I find it to be a full circle moment, that I married the two passions and am a professional songwriter now. If I had not had them pluck me from the crowd I wouldn’t have had the confidence or the belief in myself to take it to the professional level.
