We had the good fortune of connecting with Junda Wu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Junda, why did you pursue a creative career?
Storytelling has always been how I make sense of the world. I began as a musician, creating my own work, and naturally became interested in how sound, visuals, and emotion interact. That curiosity eventually led me to directing, where all those elements could live together.

What draws me to film is the ability to create atmosphere and emotional truth, not just something that looks good, but something that feels immersive and human. Directing allows me to combine rhythm from music, visual language from design, and psychology into a single experience.

Choosing a creative path hasn’t always been the most predictable route, but it’s the one that feels honest to who I am. Creating gives me clarity and purpose, and it’s what continues to drive my work across narrative, commercial, and music projects.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work focuses on directing, with an emphasis on atmospheric storytelling, using visual precision and performance to create emotional depth. I’m drawn to projects that live between beauty and unease, stories that explore intimacy, desire, and psychological tension in immersive ways. Across narrative film, music videos, and branded content, I approach each project as a world-building exercise where tone, rhythm, and emotion guide the experience.

My path to directing wasn’t linear. I began as a musician, which shaped how I think about rhythm and feeling, and that background naturally led me to visual storytelling. The journey came with uncertainty and challenges, but those experiences helped me develop discipline, clarity, and a strong point of view.

What sets me apart is my sensitivity to mood and detail, and my ability to merge different creative influences into a cohesive visual language. I’m most proud of continuing to evolve while staying true to the stories I want to tell. Ultimately, I want my work to linger, to feel intentional, emotionally resonant, and unmistakably personal. I’m interested in building a body of work where each project deepens the same emotional universe, rather than treating films as isolated pieces.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a close friend were visiting LA, I’d show them the city through contrast and atmosphere. Mornings would start slow with coffee in Los Feliz or the hills, followed by quiet drives and time spent wandering galleries or catching a matinee at an independent cinema. LA feels most luxurious when you give it space.

Evenings would lean intimate and refined, beautifully designed restaurants, private-feeling bars, and nights that end with city lights from above or a coastal drive. Some nights are about energy, others about stillness. What makes LA special to me is that luxury here isn’t loud; it’s subtle, layered, and often hidden in plain sight.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to the mentors, collaborators, and friends who believed in me before things felt clear or stable. Filmmaking is such a collaborative process, and every project I’ve worked on has been shaped by people who were generous with their time, trust, and creative energy.

I also want to acknowledge the communities that encouraged experimentation and risk-taking, spaces where it felt safe to fail, learn, and grow. Those environments taught me that progress doesn’t come from certainty, but from curiosity and persistence. None of this work happens in isolation, and I’m deeply grateful to everyone who’s been part of the journey so far.
