We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Childress and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursed an artistic. creative career because I enjoyed doing it. It didn’t seem like it was work for me was as much as other things were. I grew toward it and began to like it more and more until it became a passion for me. I also enjoy it because it gives me a chance to express my self through my work and help others along the way with their projects and goals they would like to achieve.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I had to learn a lot to get to where I am today. I basically didn’t know anything about photography or videography, I consider myself a late bloomer in the game. What helped me get better in my craft is trial and error. Learning from mistakes whether its composition, lighting, lens choice and so on, are all elements I started to noticed once I began to shoot more. After shoots I would analyze my shots and be briefed on shots that I took by my mentors at the University of Arizona. Watching YouTube videos and learning on different sites also added to my knowledge in the field. I took numerous head shots and photoshoots while being a photographer/videographer at UofA and this challenged me and brought me more up to speed on how to be a better artist. However, I also believe my work ethic and knowledge to learn has got me as far as I am today. I still have a lot I want to accomplish and learn before my career is over so I continue to educate myself from my peers and educate myself on tools that I need shaping up on. I want my work to be a great representation of myself and for the next person who hires me to work with or for them on their next projects.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in la are the beach, museums, and being outdoors traveling or exploring new areas. LA offers a diverse range of experiences, and you’re sure to find something that suits your interests. Whether you’re exploring museums, enjoying the beach, or discovering new outdoor spots, Los Angeles has something for everyone. Enjoy your time exploring this exciting city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother Candie Childress has always been there for me to keep me level heated and supported me. Inspiration from my Dad, Don Childress for helping me whenever I needed advice/guidance and my friend Sage Lewis for helping me getting started with photography and videography.

My mentors in college Jason Ryder and Antonio Villagomez at the University of Arizona who taught me a lot about video editing, capturing/editing pictures, and the field in general. Pre production, production and post production lessons were given to me from these two individuals.
