We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Porter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Listening. Listening to understand and not to respond . Also disciplining myself to do the impossible and take leaps forward . I feel like my success stems from humility and confidence. I gave the universe the wheel and now I’m enjoying the ride .

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a well rounded artist , I’m a natural . I have a great eye that is blessed with vision . I’m a professional dancer, actor, model, choreographer, movement coach and educator.

I currently work as a professional creative in front and behind the camera. Which includes dancing, choreographing and creative consulting.

I knew that I was going to be doing what im doing now at a young age but I didn’t think i would get this far . Im incredibly grateful to do what I love but the adversity was heavy . However the obstacles in this journey helped me realize I wanted more for myself and only I had access to making that happen.

My brand represents authenticity, be yourself . Be brave , Be strong , Be Graceful but also do it for you . Don’t do it because you were told to .Do it because you want to .

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Actually my friends from Vegas just came out here and I showed him a typical Sunday for an Angelino/Millenial which happens on the circumstances of the season .

LAs weather is very indecisive . You never know what you’re going to get , so most days we would head to the beach or a pool party in the day . But there’s always a flea market or trading post where you can support local designers , entrepreneurs who most likely will become your friends cause LA is a small world .

Or if you’re an artist like me and you work long hours that demand every inch of your body , there’s always a lazy binging session of your favorite sitcom, series ,movie or world tours of your favorite artist on YouTube .

A week in my world entails working out (hiit training) at least 4 times a week while adding classes to master my craft. Spontaneously adding a same day self tape , following 3 music videos , commercial shoot and a photo shoot to stay current and relevant in my industry.

I have 3 favorite restaurants that I always find myself ordering from “My Two Cents “ which has the best shrimp dishes and Mac & Cheese ever . “I love vegetables so I only go to “Social State House” for their fried buffalo cauliflower . And last but no least I order faithfully off of Uber eats from “Quebobs” anything from there is presented fresh . I’ve discovered most of my favorite dine in restaurants have been closed down due to the 2020 pandemic.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A lot of people !

God is always first. Without him/her I am nothing . I would like to thank my parents for supporting me and encouraging me to live my dreams to the fullest .

I would like to thank my mother and father for giving me life and supporting me and teaching me entrepreneurship and how to be an independent mindful artist.

I would like to thank Debbie Allen for existing , without her and her studio I don’t know who I would be . That woman has invested and inspired so much energy in my life and craft . She’s taken me all over the world allowed me to perform in the best theaters with the best of the best in the business .

I would also like to thank Ava Bernstine -Mitchell . A mother ,wife ,veteran-dancer ,choreographer, creative director and journalist. A stem from Debbie Allen who has also taken me under her wing and showed me the industry through multiple lenses . She’s allowed me to shadow and work under directors like Chloe Arnold who is also a huge part of the development in my journey .

I want to also thank Helene Phillips (Director,Choreographer,Educator) taught me abandonment .She taught me to be free and human.

All of these great humans amongst many others have stored so much life into me while shaping and molding me into the artist I am today .
