We had the good fortune of connecting with Justyn Caze and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justyn, why did you pursue a creative career?
I wanted to pursue a creative career as I am an artist through and through. I want to help others by creating art, including my drag performances.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a Drag King in Southern California, been performing for almost 5 years. I work mostly with non-profits but have competed in a few competitions. I got to this point in my drag career by focusing on community and doing as much as I’m capable of to work on my craft. None of this was easy, especially being a King but I keep going. I focused on doing my craft the way I see my art should be, which is the beauty of drag. It breaks the cis-normativity and creates art out of it. I’ve learned to really focus on my well-being and doing what I can to make sure I can continue my work without sacrificing my health for it.

I want the world to know that Justyn Caze is my canvas and I will have him perform as such. I do it to see people smile, to see them cry, to educate, to show the world that drag is art and integral to our queer history.

A few of things I’m proud of is being part of a WeHo drag history exhibit at the One Institute, becoming Imperial Crown Prince Royale of ICLAH Reign 54, 3rd Place for Mary’s Auditions on May 14th, 2025, and being marked 1st Alternate for Mr High Desert 2024.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take them all over the place! Octavia’s Bookshelf, Underdog Bookstore, Rad Coffee, Kindred Spirits, Pomona Valley Pride, Azusa Canyon, Donut Man, Hamburger Mary’s Ontario, Pomona Night Market, Griffith Observatory.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give several shoutouts to the queer community who support Kings, my wife who has been my manager my entire drag career, the King community for being as welcoming as it is, the International Court System, the Imperial Court of Los Angeles & Hollywood. I want to give recognition to the local queens in my area who gave me my first in-person opportunities (Specficially Virginia X and Shear Love). I want to show the appreciation for the SGVLGBTQ Center and Pomona Valley Pride for supporting local drag. Last and definitely not least, I want to give spotlight to the Trans BIPOC performers in the drag community that get overlooked, including trans Kings who have been cultivating a scene for years and deserve to take up space and feel safe in queer spaces. Without all of these folks who gave me these opportunities to showcase my art, I would not have gotten as far as I have.
