Meet Kaci Obrero | Illustrator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaci Obrero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaci, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Over time I have begun to base my success more about how it makes me feel and how it can affect others on how they feel when they look at my work. Which for me means always saying “NO”, when things don’t feel right which of course leads to losing some opportunities. I however have worked hard to be confident in my work and intentions and have faith that only good things will come to my doorstep.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that my background in children’s art and my passion for fashion and beauty illustration lends itself to a more glossy illustrative style that emphasize all the pretty details. Finding your style takes years and years of honing, failing, and figuring things out. Knowing this and trying to enjoy the journey along the way will be the key to finding your style faster. Beating yourself up when failure comes is the worse thing you can do for yourself in life and in art, and will probably be one of your hardest inner obstacles to overcome. I am still my most hardest critic but have learned also be my most aggressive cheerleader as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Most people would say Disneyland, but I would say the beach or any of the parks. Huntington Library is one of my very favorites.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Family for me is the whole part of my story as an artist . From having a father who has been an illustrator for over 50 years whose love for art transcended into a career he was truly passionate about to inspiring me to do the same with mine. To a work from home mom who was there to help foster all the dreams her family could think of. To a husband who supports all my crazy ideas, and to my beautiful daughter who is half critic half muse. Friends and family alike inspire me to do me very best every single piece I create.
