Meet Kaela Brown | Colorist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaela Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaela, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My end goal is to work on projects that speak to me and inspire me. I always enjoy working on the type of projects where everyone involved is passionate about their work and can collaborate well so that we come to the same destination; a beautiful film, commercial, episode, etc. By then end of my professional career I want to be able to say I’ve worked on projects that hopefully make a difference in someone’s llife.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m currently pretty excited for people to see the new streaming Marvel shows on Disney+. The team I work with in the finishing department worked very hard and I hope it shows! The path to where I am today professionally definitely was not easy. Being a creative in the television and film space can be difficult especially when you are freelance. I utilized social media and networking events to get my name and my work out to people in the same space as me. After working with colleagues on short films, music videos, and commercials, I started to build a client list and a lot of my freelance work now are repeat clients and/or recommendations from previous clients. If you’re thinking about working in this industry, I would say to never give up and as someone wise once told me, “if you get out of line, you’ll lose your place,” so keep at it and eventually you’ll get to where you want to be.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My itinerary for a best friend who was visiting the Los Angeles area would be as follows:
1. Hiking Runyon Canyon
2. Go to a Dodgers Game
3. Take my dog to a dog park
4. Grab a coffee at Auntie’s in DTLA
5. Walk Venice Beach boardwalk
6. Eat breakfast at Rusty Pot Cafe in Inglewood
7. Go dancing at TheyHouse
8. Grab tacos from Los Burritos
9. Bowling and food at L.A. Live
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to a friend of mine whose first name is Ben. If it wasn’t for Ben taking a chance on me and believing in me, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today. Ben opened a door for me and recommended me to a high profile color assist job and I can’t say for certain that I would’ve gotten that same opportunity on my own.
