We had the good fortune of connecting with Kai Boyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kai, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Finding a Work life balance is an important element in every person’s life but especially as an entrepreneur it is crucial to the success and longevity of your business. As an entrepreneur you have to know what tasks to take on and accomplish yourself and what tasks to designate or outsource. If you try to take on too much you become overloaded and some tasks fall by the way side while others will be poorly done. It is very easy to get consumed in daily tasks and not take time for yourself to do the things you enjoy. In my experience creating a healthy work/life balance requires a conscious and consistent effort as well as reflective insight in order to develop a well balanced schedule.
As I often tell my clients you must give to yourself before you can give unto others. Whether you are a parent or a business owner you have to make sure to prioritize taking care of yourself both mentally and physically. It is easy to get caught up and forget the importance of nourishing yourself. When you are mentally exhausted you tend to make poor decisions or simple mistakes that you would not make otherwise. With burn out comes irritability and poor decision making which will impact both your personal and professional life.
Find what makes you most excited inside, it can even be a variety of hobbies from relaxation activities (yoga, meditation) to creative hobbies (coloring, sketching) to physical activities (going to the gym, playing a sport). You will soon find your work life is better as a result of creating a balance, you will be more mentally clear and ready to take on the day. Stimulating your mind, body and spirit is an important element of being a successful entrepreneur.
It has taken me years to understand and find balance between my personal and professional life, knowing my own limitations of how many hours / clients I can take on and setting those boundaries to help me achieve an optimal balance.
Here are my tips for achieving a healthy work life balance as an entrepreneur
1) Set healthy boundaries whether it be how many hours/days you work, how many clients / projects you take on, know your own limitations.
2) Take time away from your phone or computer. Don’t be afraid to get off the grid and enjoy the world around you, enjoy time with family and friends.
3) Delegate – Tasks that you do not have the time or capacity for are all great tasks to delegate so you have more time an energy to focus on the big picture.
4) Set aside time each week to do something that excites you. Do what sets your soul on fire.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started Kai Boyer Fitness while I was attending undergrad at UC Irvine and over the past 8 years I have continued to build and grow the business into what it is today. It was extremely difficult to begin as a 20 year old with no capital and very minimal business experience however with daily dedication, commitment and a whole lot of blood, sweat and tears it grew into the business that I have today.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
