Meet Kai Fujimoto: Hair stylist & Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kai Fujimoto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kai, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
First and foremost, I’m extremely picky about the hair products I use, for my clients and myself. The best thing about having my own business is that I can handpick the best products in the world, and I get to use them everyday. I use Oway (Organic Way) products, Original mineral CØR Clean Hair Color Technology, Oway Organic Color, and other new color lines/products. I am always in search of the best hair products out there! I love having my own business because I can always be competitive with myself to evolve, be progressive, and give the best results to my clients through expert level product knowledge and technical skills. It’s like living in a dream!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have so much passion for hair and I have so many ideas in my head. That’s what I think about in most of my free time: what I want to create next, and what hair color I need to use in order to create what I’m envisioning. I call these visions hair fantasies. My hair fantasies and creativities are endless in my mind, and that’s what keeps me excited about my work. Getting to where I am today, professionally speaking , has not been easy, but my passion for doing hair and hair fantasies has brought me here. It sure is challenging physically, sometimes! I create pastel colors, vivid colors and fantasy hair, that can easily take up to 8 hours – 12 hours with one client. My longest service time to create a pastel color from a scratch was 15 hours! Although this job is physically challenging at times, my passion, hair fantasies, and excitement exceed my physical limitations. The dedication I have in creating what I envision for my hair fantasies showcase my authentic brand. I love that I can tell a story through bring these fantasies to life, and give clients their dream hair.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Salon Aqua, my private and gorgeous studio in Salon Republic, is conveniently located at Burbank Town Center in Downtown Burbank. We have amazing restaurants, bars, two movie theaters and a shopping mall to hang out. If you like seafood, we have Boiling Crab here in downtown Burbank. Don Cucos is also one of my favorite restaurants if you like Mexican food. Salon Aqua’s location could not be better. We are surrounded by everything you could want or need to make your visit to my salon most enjoyable! I dedicate my shoutout to my business partner Katelyn Wiggins (Katelyn P style). We opened our salon, Salon Aqua in July 2020. It has always been my dream to create my own salon, and we share the same vision for the dream salon I wanted to create. Katelyn is an exceptional hair artist, and our vision for the space could not be more compatible.
Salon Aqua is my truly dream work space, and could not be created if Katelyn was not my business partner. I could not be happier and more proud of the salon we have created together. I am thankful for the efforts and support she gives me and Salon Aqua, and her artistry to create the most beautiful salon I have ever been a part of.
