We had the good fortune of connecting with Kamantha Naidoo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kamantha, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I actually pursued a career in mental health before I pursued a creative career. Howeve the thing is I always dreamed of becoming an actor since I was a little girl but I didn’t know I could actually do it. I always wanted to help people- family and friendships are very important to me. I found myself building a career as a Family Counsellor and Psych EDucator which allowed me to help families, couples and kids. During this time I couldn’t shake the feeling that I still needed to chase my dream of acting and alternatively help others through a creative means. My colleagues, family and friends encouraged my dream and supported me in a big way! So I moved to Vancouver to do that…and the rest is history.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am now an Actor and a Confidence Coach. As an Actor I love uncovering layers to each character and then bringing them to life to tell stories on screen.

In my journey towards becoming an actor, I like many-faced several limiting beliefs and fear of failure. However my background in psychology prepared me in many ways to keep going and to get better each time. There is repetition in everything we do and learning patterns around the process helps us come back stronger each time. While I left my career in mental health behind, I reinvented myself as a Confidence Coach and now share what I have learned with others. Confidence in yourself allows you to chase what you believe belongs to you, be it success or a dream career. I have also created a program specifically for Actors called “Confidence for Actors” a ten day coaching program that teaches actors how to eliminate their limiting beliefs that hold them back and strategies to excel and grow in their career.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Vancouver is a beautiful city and I live right in the heart of it. A day trip to this beautiful city would include a coffee walk along the sea wall, followed by lunch in the iconic gastown, then a drive to Deep Cove where the views are stunning and a hike is necessary, and I would probably recommend ending the day somewhere fun for dinner and drinks in Yaletown. Other places I would recommend visiting are the beaches! Our beaches are peaceful and scenic. One of my favourite spots in the city is Canada Place. Bike rides or a scenic drive through Stanley Park is a must! And there are endless spots for food, drinks, shopping and sight-seeing, choices are limitless.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my best friend and biggest cheerleader Magalie R Bazinet of @artefaktselftapes When I was finally brave enough to pursue acting professionally we became friends in acting class at MDS Actors.  She pushed me to break down my barriers and helped me to continue chasing my dreams. We have faced ups and downs together and I feel our successes are always a win for both of us.
