We had the good fortune of connecting with Kameron Rasmussen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kameron, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There was definitely an overwhelming amount of thought that went into deciding to start my own business. A lot of doubt and a lot of “what if’s”. However, after working years in restaurants and behind counters, I couldn’t continue to live my life based on someone else’s schedule and how much they decided my time was worth in dollars. I began working as a content creator in 2015, which was scary because it was still a pretty new profession and there was no blueprint on how to achieve success in that field. I researched algorithms, how to create and read contracts and watched every youtube video I could find on camera equipment and editing. There were countless nights spent staring at my computer, editing photos and sending emails, which eventually paid off and allowed me to create an income stream that could support my life. In 2019 I decided to pursue an additional career as a professional hairstylist. I have done hair and makeup since i was 15 and thought if I can have one business, then I can definitely have two! Time management and constant education in both fields are definitely my secret to success! Although it can be stressful and scary at times, it is the best career decision I have ever made!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love that both of my business are focused in the creative field. With content creation I am my own producer, talent, editor and curator all while working with brands that I can align myself with. In hairstyling I get to transform others through color and extensions, and give them confidence to feel like their best self when they leave my chair. The best part is that I get to use my knowledge of social media to aid in hair by creating content for clients to see my work and meet other stylist and clients.

The transition of simultaneously running both businesses has definitely been a challenge. With only so much time in the week, working 5 days with clients, curating content, responding to brand emails and traveling can get pretty hectic. I’ve learned that time management the key to less stress and more success. My best tip is to create monthly schedules in advance and that has really allowed for a great work and life balance, which is so important.

What I want the world to know about my brand is that it’s built on relationships and art in many forms. I want to show my followers and clients that any aspirations of travel, fashion and all things hair can be achieved with hard work and sacrifice, if you want it bad enough!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles has so much to offer, especially when it come s to dining and adventure. I would definitely recommend Universal Studios if you are looking to have a full day. The park offers thrilling rides and an amazing tour of the back lot, but you can also check out Universal City Walk which is right outside of the park that has so many restaurants and the AMC theatre.

Where to Stay: I highly recommend the Fairmont Century Plaza, I’ve stayed a few times. It’s such an elevated experience and the rooftop pool is stunning. The Mondrian and Andaz are also great! Located right on the Sunset Strip your close to shopping restaurants and the iconic Beverly Hills.

Where to eat: Some of my favorites are ChinChin on Sunset Blvd, Jones Hollywood (a hollywood staple), Formosa Cafe (delicious Asian cuisine), Malibu Seafood on the PCH, Castaway, Tatsu Ramen and Blue Ribbon Sushi located at The Grove so you can do some shopping while you’re at it!

Where to Grab a Drink: Looking for fun places to grab a drink then I would recommend the rooftop at Desert 5 Spot or Mama Shelter. You can also check out Beauty & Essex, All Season Brewery and Harlowe on Santa Monica Blvd.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that I can accredit to my successes, both in my career and life. My current mentor Beau Dieda has absolutely changed my life. He has taken me under his wing in the field of hairstyling and through an apprenticeship I was able to obtain my cosmetology license. Not only has he taught me the art of hair but also how to construct a business and acquire a loyal clientele. After 20 years in the industry working with celebrities and starting his own business, he selflessly shared all of his knowledge and we are now working on projects together for example our podcast “We Are Dyeing” streaming on Apple Podcasts and Spotify!
