Meet Kamryn Hansen | Model, Actress, and Scientist.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kamryn Hansen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kamryn, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Interestingly, I would have to say the most important factor behind my success was the way others have underestimated me. Having grit to continue to persevere through hard times and come back stronger. You are always going to fail at something but it takes failing to learn and grow in order to be the best you can be. Being a model in the industry of other amazingly talented people you are compared to and have to stay true to yourself and be okay with not getting accepted at a casting, but to keep trying. Graduating from college with a Biology degree and minor in Chemistry I was able to learn that it is okay and even necessary to fail. Failure is still a result and is necessary to the process. Advocate for yourself, take a chance, and have fun because you never know what can come out of any opportunity.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My path hasn’t been linear and that is okay. I am constantly giving myself the time and space I need to be able to find what I love to do. During COVID I lost a lot of my confidence as I was not putting time aside for the things I loved while also being in school. Now being a recent college graduate with a degree in Biology and Chemistry I have had to overcome several failures and obstacles including harassment, being underestimated, and being a first generation student. It was hard to not feel imposter syndrome in school and in my modeling career. One thing that got me through was thinking that imposter syndrome is a good thing because it shows that you are uncomfortable which is pivotal for growth.
Now, I am working full time as a scientist making life saving medicine for patients while also being a freelance model in my down time as a way to de-stress and express my creativity.
Bridging the gap between being beautiful and being smart is necessary for the industry. There are many times that I have surprised people with how smart I am based on how I look. I want to be apart of breaking that stereotype.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Eventbrite is a great platform to look for new events. There are hundreds of events in LA that you don’t see on Instagram or other social media platforms. A place I love to take my friends and family to de-stress and eat good food would be Rafi Lounge in Malibu. This is the place for you if you love soundbath meditations and manifesting while being surrounded by the best vibes.
The BROAD museum is also a good place and is free on Thursdays.
A list of recent food places I have been to include: Bacari for breakfast, Grandmaster records for a weekend happy hour/pizza, il fornaio for the vodka pasta but honestly any food there is good, Elephante in Santa Monica is also a good spot. Lastly, LA has a variety of bars to go out at night preferrably I love a speakeasy.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There has been a plethora of people who have been influential to my success. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support system consisting of my friends and family. I am forever grateful for my high school friend Cindy Solorio who has always believed in me and invited me to be a model at the makeup school she was attending. To mine and the teachers surprise she brought me on the day where they were applying beards. Afterwards, she applied makeup on me and everyone was hyping me up saying that I have “the look “and am a natural in front of the camera. This helped establish the confidence that I carry today. Not only did this opportunity help me with my confidence but I also established connections with a photographer and the beauty school teacher. Little did I know this would open the door to my first professional photoshoot.
