Meet Kara Chang | Relationship Coach & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kara Chang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’m a relationship coach, and I believe that love and relationships are what make the world go round, not only with others but within ourselves. As a transwoman, I’ve definitely looked for love in all the wrong places. I bought into the fallacy that I was exempt from happily ever after because of who I am. If you believe that the world only has trash to offer you, you will attract trash. It wasn’t until a particularly toxic situationship that I began to do the deep work of learning to love myself and to heal from within. We are only as unloveable as we believe we are. I’ve learned that everyone has insecurities, and we are not as alone or different as we may think. As a relationship coach, I want to help clients get unblocked in their love lives, build confidence, and self-actualize to manifest the relationships they deserve.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Nothing about my life has been easy. As an Asian-American transwoman, my greatest accomplishment is having made it this far in life. I grew up in Texas, getting death threats, and people telling me that I was never going to amount to anything, that I was fated for failure. I have worn many hats – activist, actress, comedian, and now a relationship coach and content creator. In all of my endeavors, I am using my platform to give a voice to communities that have been historically underrepresented. I am in a powerful position of being able to open minds and hearts. Some would say that the market for content creators is oversaturated and impossible to stand out, and this is how I can use my niche to my advantage. How many Asian transwomen relationship coaches can you name? I’ll wait. There is a desire for relationships and connection in the communities of my various identities that has gone long neglected. I know what it feels like to not belong, to feel excluded from the majority because I have walked many miles in those shoes. There is a seat for everyone at the table, and I have a unique story that deserves to be heard. I use my influence to improve the relationships of those who have felt unseen and to humanize my communities to the world.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my boyfriend. He is my best friend, my rock, who also happens to be an entrepreneur and life coach. All that to say he is my personal cheerleader and is on retainer 24/7, especially at 1 AM when he is just about to doze off for the night. In all seriousness, I owe a lot to him. He dared me to dream. I grew up in a traditional Asian American culture of going to a good college to get a good job to work a conventional 9-5 until retirement. The world of being your own boss was never a thought in my mind. He has helped open my (third) eyes to what life could be, a life with freedom and infinite potential, all the while making a difference in the world on my own terms.
