We had the good fortune of connecting with Karl Legris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karl, why did you pursue a creative career?
During my childhood I was in a music school where I mainly learned music theory and playing the guitar and piano while learning the fundamental bases.

I won’t hide it from you even if the lessons were good, which I learning was very generic and boring, we didn’t do the pieces we wanted and I didn’t find as much pleasure as I imagined, so I started to play a lot on my own, playing the music I wanted and it was a totally different experience, it was a lot more enjoyable for me ! From that moment on, thanks to videos of pianists and musicians that I had seen before on YouTube, I began to seriously think about launching a musical career by sharing my music. These YouTubers inspired me a lot in my self-taught learning and in my launch as an artist. After that I decided to stop going to music school, I continued being self-taught. I remember that for the piano I spent several hours on it without a break every day on complicated pieces, it was very hard but once mastered it allowed me to play technical pieces more quickly and easily.

Once I mastered my instruments well I decided to share my passion for music. One of my motivations that motivated me to pursue a musical career is that I want to bring together a community that has the same interests as me and offer them good vibes, good entertainment. Today I am linked to music, it is part of my identity, music is everywhere in the world no matter where we go: in public transport, in stores, in advertisements… really everywhere and without music I think the world would be sad.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I play several musical instruments, notably the piano but also the guitar, the violin, the trombone and more recently the ukulele with which I create my compositions and my covers which I share on all musical platforms under my artist name ZephyrMusic.

One of my particularities is that I really do everything, I am not attached to any style, I adapt to people’s desires and to my own, even if some music is more difficult to adapt to the piano or other instruments. I always tries to adapt it as best as possible when possible to make a cover, the most important thing to do a good cover and understand the story of the original song, the emotions it wants to convey, to love what we start again and be motivated to do it, it is possible to do a repeat without respecting that but the result risks being less good, you really have to take your time and not rush, people who are not in the field of music wrongly thinks that a cover is simple to do and that the musicians just copy the music in 10 minutes but that there is a whole work behind it including the variations and the adaptation and this is not so obvious, you also have to know how to play by ear and that’s not for everyone.

I don’t just do covers of very well-known music, I also do covers of lesser-known music but which are just as beautiful, it allows us to highlight music that is different from that which we are used to hear and promote other artists who are just as talented, the goal is not just to copy and paste something that everyone knows, you also have to add a personal touch, the goal of this diversity is that my music brings together as many people from different backgrounds as possible so that everyone can find what they’re looking for among the content I offer.

Another particularity is that I love cinema, so I decided to sometimes make videos mixing music and cinema, it’s not content that we often find but in general people like it and it creates good entertainment if it is done properly, I therefore produce music videos in a costume and a setting linked to the music allowing immersion for the spectator watching the video.

I have watched several videos of this concept myself and I found it really cool to see movie characters that we love playing music from the film in which they appear, so I took inspiration from it.

Another thing concerning the world of cinema is that I am starting to write a script with the co-writer for a short film or even a mini series, I will interpret as an actor one of these characters, this production is based on a series that I adore enormously, it directly concerns Los Angeles but to create a clash of cultures the filming will be carried out in a another country, I can’t tell you more but it’s a project that is really close to my heart, it won’t come out right away so be patient.

When you start a career as an artist, the future is very uncertain and many questions can slow you down, if I arrived here today it is because I put a lot of time, effort and I sincerely believed in my project, passion does everything and allows us to move forward even in the most difficult moments.

Music is for me a refuge that allows me to escape the problems of today’s world. But I’m not going to lie to you if I got here today it’s largely thanks to the people who support me and who listen to my music, it motivates me a lot, that’s why I continue to invest so much, in fact I’m going to release my first album “Love N Covers” of 14 or 15 songs on the theme of love/romance, the release of which is planned for 2025.

Being an artist is a real personal investment, you need patience, perseverance and creativity: you have to know how to innovate to offer something new to prevent people from getting bored and that’s not so easy. There are challenges that can be overcome if you have the passion in you. For example, one of the difficulties was finding a good balance between work, family and my career as an artist. My job is not easy and requires me to make many daily trips sometimes far enough from home to force me to sleep far from home, so I must have a good organization to manage my family life and a career as an artist alongside my work.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

If I were to invite someone to LA, I would definitely visit the city’s highlights. We will first take a relaxing walk on the beautiful sand and bright sunshine of Venice Beach, then on the Venice Boardwalk, there are beautiful shops, very beautiful murals and street artists, as an artist it’s a real pleasure to be interested in it and to discuss the talents of other artists even if their field is not linked to music, this corner of the city is one of my favorites.

For fun, there is Pacific Park in Santa Monica, with great rides, I would prefer to go there at night because the lighting in the park is incredible and makes it magical, my favorite attraction is the unmissable Pacific Wheel, at the top the view is incredible.

A place not to be missed in Los Angeles is the famous Hollywood Boulevard, a place animated by tourism and very talented artists who make the place lively especially at night, there is really everything from musicians, singers, cosplayers, painters… it’s amazing to be able to find so many artists from different backgrounds in every corner of LA and it’s one of the things that makes LA such a great place.

Then just at the top is the Griffith Observatory, one of the most beautiful places where you can contemplate the immense city of Los Angeles with a beautiful view of Downtown Los Angeles and its impressive US Bank Tower.

I love cycling, I remember having a great time last year with my uncle during my vacation where we cycled about 72 mi in one morning for a bike ride around the Thau pond and the surrounding area.

I would like to rediscover this pleasant moment of sharing here in LA by discovering part of the city by bike with the friend passing through town we will therefore go by bike along the paths of Griffith Park.

For culture we will go to Mid-Wilshire where there are a lot of museums, as a priority I will show him Urban Light at night, it’s an installation that amazes me personally, I find it really beautiful. There are so many great places here that it would be difficult to list them all, I told you the places that I would first show a friend.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I sincerely thank my family who have always supported me in my projects, my friends who have made me what I am today and I am proud of it, as well as certain acquaintances I have had the chance to meet. Everyone has their story which makes them unique and which by sharing with them builds you.

In this musical adventure I would like to thank all the people who follow me and listen to my music, this makes me want to do more and more to offer new projects and new titles of unique and exceptional quality, this adventure would not exist not without them, I am extremely grateful. I also thank all the artists who defend and transmit culture every day and who allow other artists to believe in their projects.
