We had the good fortune of connecting with Karla Bonilla and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karla, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks can be scary because of the uncertainty that comes with them. It’s something to consider when it can initiate a positive change or result. For me taking risks has proven to be necessary for my career growth. From the beginning, some of the most significant decisions I’ve made have notably changed the trajectory of my life for the better.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professional Makeup Artist with proficiency in beauty, fashion, special effects, tv, and film. I have been working on my craft since 2014, Throughout the years I have developed a specific skill set that is highly sought after, adaptability. It’s valued to be able to roll with the punches, find solutions, and welcome last minute changes. I bring a favorable work ethic, personality, and chill energy to any project I am a part of and that is what sets me apart. It’s important for me that I always conduct myself gracefully with no ego. Being easy to work with goes a long way.

This journey has not been easy. It’s taken a lot of time and hard work to get to this stage in my career. I’ve done so with perseverance, determination, and leaning on my support system through the tough times.

Along the way, I’ve learned to always bet on myself. To be confident in my abilities and step into my potential. Investing in yourself when you are finally prepared to do so can be very fruitful!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LA has so many great eats and entertainment. There are a few places I’d take anyone visiting to show them a good time! We’d hit a night at the Comedy store in weho for some belly-aching laughs. If it’s baseball season we’d definitely have to see the boys in blue and hit a Dodgers game in which we’d enjoy all the stadium snacks available. For a nice dinner experience, one night I’d take my friend to Joey’s Woodland Hills, their salmon plate is unbelievable! For a day full of thrills Six Flags Magic Mountain would scratch the itch, a favorite in the summertime. Lastly, a classic visit to Ocean Ave for a bite at the many restaurants ranging from sushi to Mexican then take a short walk to the Santa Monica Pier for some entertainment and tasty treats. Some additional food picks include Javiers Century City (everything is literally delish), Drunken Crab in North Hollywood, and AYCE Gogi in Van Nuys.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am truly blessed with a phenomenal support system within my family and close friends. They support me in everything I do, encouraging me every step of the way. There is constant love from everyone in my inner circle that empowers me but my mom deserves a special shoutout. Growing up she was the epitome of resilience and perseverance, inspiring me to strive for success with dignity and grace. Her unconditional love and support have given me confidence and molded me into an independent, hardworking, and motivated individual. She sacrificed a lot so that I had the opportunity to make something out of myself. I owe her everything and at the end of the day, I just want to make her proud.
