We had the good fortune of connecting with Karla Huff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As the parent of a young actor, as we travelled the road of pursuing his dreams there were so many things I needed from our managers that I didn’t get. I ended up quitting my job as he was growing up so I could always be there and advocate for him when needed. When he turned 16 and wanted to do more things on his own, I realized the only thing I really knew a lot about any more was the industry! So I got together with another mom who had become a good friend as we travelled the business together with our boys – we decided to open up our own management company and be the kind of managers we wished we had! That was 18 years ago now – hard to believe!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What I get to do every single day of my life is help my talented group of artist’s dreams come true. I am so grateful that they have allowed me to be a part of their lives and family and they are forever in my heart. I am so inspired by their talent, creativity, resilience, dedication to their craft, and their vulnerability. This is not an easy job – it can be heartbreaking, thrilling, overwhelming, all in the space of a half hour! However 18 years in I still look forward to sitting at my desk every morning and knowing that one phone call can change someone’s life forever and I am so privileged to be part of that possibility.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well forever and always my favorite spot will be Paradise Cove in Malibu. I used to take my son there from the time he was little and when I go it takes me back. Not to mention they have a wonderful restaurant, great Adirondack chairs right on the beach to sit and sip and enjoy the beautiful ocean, and I go down there as often as possible. I also love The Grove – shopping, movies, eating – what’s better than that on a day out with friends? And finally my other fave spot to visit when I am out and about is The Getty – best view, amazing art and gardens = bliss.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A HUGE shoutout to my son, Nick Huff, without whom nothing in my life would be possible! Helping him pursue his dreams lead me to discovering mine. And he continues to be a daily inspiration to me – absolutely the best person I know, ask anyone! Also really want to give a shoutout to the Looking Ahead Program. I sit on the Advisory Board of this tremendous organization that truly and selflessly helps kids and families in the entertainment industry with a myriad of needs at no cost to these kids or families. The whole staff there are truly heroes to me and provide such an invaluable support system that is so needed.
