We had the good fortune of connecting with Kasey Dutcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kasey, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
From my experience, we are always an afterthought! I cannot tell you how many calls we get for last minute or same day large orders with only hours to fulfill the order. Most people place priority on the other details for their events and at the last minute, they realize they need us and luckily, we are able to help and service the event.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a small business owner of a portable bathroom company based in Southern California. I have been a part of the company for 4.5 years but have really stepped up into my role of being the head woman in charge in year 4. I was essentially forced to buck up and lean into my position when my husband went out of state to work. The business was in an interesting situation due to COVID-19 and I had a choice- let the business fail when it really needed my attention and my employees needed me or crawl into my bed and shut down because my husband left to provide for our family. I chose to step up and face the challenge of running a business, managing employees, raising three very small children all while managing distance learning and stay-home orders that were forever changing. I am where I am today because of my husband, my employees and my children. Truly. My husband saw and continues to see the potential in me and when I leaned into my role in the company, it changed my relationship with him and we are truly partners in life and in business. Stepping up and putting on my big girl pants has shown me how much my husband has sacrificed for our family (and continues to do so) and makes me admire him and our journey even more. I also couldn’t be me without my employees. I am someone that likes to teach and also think on my toes and that’s where my employees come into play. They allow me the creative space to think and problem solve that I don’t get to do otherwise. They challenge me and get me to think about 1 million things at once before providing an answer. Lastly, my children are my why. I want to give my kids what I didn’t have as a child and teach them the lessons it took me a long time to learn, early on. None of this is easy. Life isn’t easy. But what’s the alternative option? Living in fear and constant anxiety? 2020 is the year of learning and identifying what matters in life and what matters to me is being a strong, independent woman who doesn’t hide behind fear and worry. Life is a challenge and I choose to navigate through hard times the best I can with the tools that I have because it truly adds to my character and makes me an even stronger woman. I have learned that I am much more capable of doing almost everything on my own. It is a very empowering feeling looking back on the day and realizing the amount of duties-between being a mom and business owner- that I accomplish each and every day. People often tell me that they don’t know how I do it and my answer is, “I don’t either. I just do it. I don’t have any other choice.”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is such a fun question! Being a transplant and living in Santa Clarita, CA, Id start by taking her for a bike ride on one of the many trails we have in SCV; wed stop for breakfast at Eggs n Things, Egg Plantation and if we were adventurous, The Halfway House Cafe. After that, we’d head to Ventura, CA and have lunch at Spencer Makenzies- hello Ahi pockets! We’d shop on main street and check out the super cute thrift stores on the main drag as well. Once back in town. we’d get dolled up and head to downtown Newhall on their mainstreet to one of the many breweries for drinks and hop along the street to find a spot for dinner since there are so many unique spots to choose from. I have been out of the scene for the last seven years due to raising babies so it would be fun to find a spot on the map and just go and explore whatever that city has to offer!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My gram! She is the most levelheaded, straight shooter I know and I am so thankful for her love and support. We understand each other in ways no one else can and without her, I would be a mess. I also have to shout out my husband and children- they are huge supporters of me and the reason why I do things on the daily.
