We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Neligan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kate, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is knowing my WHY. Being a voice for the horses and sharing their gifts, as well as serving as a bridge between humans and equines, is my why. When things get hard in my business or I don’t feel like doing something, I return to the importance of this and it motivates me, helping me to get over resistance and fear. I will reach out to anyone just because I want to support the horses and shine a light on why they are here on the planet and how they can help humanity transform.
My success is also linked directly to my values. I have found that freedom, love, and transformation are some of the core values that have made me a successful heart- centered, service-based, conscious entrepreneur. Having a flexible schedule so I can be outside in nature almost every day to spend personal time with my goats and horses was one of the top reasons I needed to succeed as an equine-partnered life/career coach.
I used to find success in the corporate world driven by more egotistic reasons until I was able to re-define success to “doing what I love”, rather than an outside metric of a certain salary or title. This connection to love helped me to step out of a six-figure career in entertainment and into my calling in the human-animal bond space. I am inspired daily to witness the way in which horses unconditionally love humans.
Watching my clients grow in their own self-love and respect and then carry that out into the world is also humbling. Transformation is my favorite thing to witness in both horses and humans. Personal and professional growth is a natural part of life and when clients commit to this through private sessions, retreats or team buildings, it’s awe-inspiring to see their significant shifts. I love watching a timid horse open up and trust because he feels safe around a human. Or to see a stressed-out and anxious woman find her relaxed center after a meditation with the horse herd.
The effects of equine coaching are long-lasting, and the experience is very memorable. It is heartwarming to have clients return and notice how much they have changed because they have committed to this experiential education. It hits both my why and my values and helps me to feel successful. I also enjoy how my community has grown through social media, referrals, and positive testimonials. I am proud of both my success and the success of my clients.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career has taken interesting twists and turns as I found my calling over time. I feel what sets me apart from others is that I have left a corporate career to pursue my purpose and I was willing to do deep inner work to listen to my intuition rather than the voices of others and the “shoulds” of society. I was able to make the leap out of my corporate career into coaching because I received my Master’s in Spiritual Psychology and I started listening to horses, which helped me to follow my heart over my head!
It was definitely not easy because it required a lot of self-trust and faith that what I wanted for a career would work out. I had to believe that my greatest love, helping people and learning from horses, could also be my work and greatest offering to humanity. I’ve learned so many lessons along the way, most of them taught by the horses I partner with as a coach. All of these lessons are connected to deeper self-awareness and emotional intelligence skills that help me get through any challenge.
I want the world to know that our dreams are truly possible if we believe in them and commit to the personal growth work that is required to make them happen. I believe that the horses can help us make big leaps like starting a new career chapter and leaving behind old ways of being that no longer serve us so we can shine brighter!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My LA itinerary would include stops at the best healthy restaurants that serve juice, vegan food, organic and gluten-free goodies! We would take all this to enjoy at the beach (either Will Rogers in Pacific Palisades or Zuma Beach in Malibu). I would also drive them around all the amazing neighborhoods to see various sights like the Hollywood sign, downtown’s famous buildings, museums, parks, shops, and my personal favorite the Self-Realization Lake Shrine. Of course we would also spend time with horses at the ranches where I work in Malibu, Agoura or Thousand Oaks!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shout-out is to all of the horses on the planet who have been our partners through so much of our growth as a humanity. They have been on Earth longer than we have and have carried us through wars, been our transportation, participated in sports and entertainment, and are now willing to help us release our burdens through equine therapy/coaching/learning work!
