Meet Kate Price | Designer of Bespoke & Reimagined Heirloom Jewelry

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kate Price and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kate, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It all started when my mom passed away and I inherited some of her jewelry. These pieces held so much meaning, but they didn’t feel like me—and I couldn’t find anyone I trusted who really understood my style or the emotional weight behind what I wanted to do. I began redesigning them myself, and it was unexpectedly healing. Friends started asking me to help with their heirlooms, and little by little, my business grew—very organically. Now, I help others reimagine their inherited jewelry in a way that honors their stories. Sometimes that means creating a deeper connection to a loved one; other times, it’s about gently letting go. Either way, it’s about transformation—inside and out.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work lives at the intersection of sentiment and style. I design custom fine jewelry, with a specialty in reimagining heirlooms—taking pieces that have been passed down or tucked away and transforming them into something deeply personal and wearable for this chapter of life. Every project is a collaboration rooted in memory, meaning, and modern design.
What sets my work apart is the level of care, intuition, and emotional fluency I bring to the process. Jewelry is never just jewelry—it’s memory, identity, grief, love, legacy. I help clients navigate those layers with empathy and artistry. I don’t just design for their taste—I design for their story.
I started this business after my mom passed away. I inherited pieces I couldn’t bear to part with but didn’t feel like me. I couldn’t find a jeweler I trusted to handle that emotional weight, so I became that person. The business grew organically—friends started asking for help, and it unfolded from there. It hasn’t been easy. I left a stable career in education, built a brand from the ground up, and learned how to run a business while raising two young kids. But I’ve learned that purpose and authenticity will carry you through the uncertainty.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know, it’s this: you don’t have to leave your jewelry—and by extension, your stories—stuck in the past. They can be honored and made new again. That’s the magic of what we do at Kate Rose Fine Jewelry.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d anchor the week around the magic of Santa Monica Proper Hotel. We’d start with rooftop cocktails at Calabra, soaking in the ocean views and the impeccable Kelly Wearstler design. Mornings would begin with beach walks or rooftop yoga, followed by a visit to Surya Spa for a moment of grounding. One of my favorite days would be spent at the Proper Club—a warm, elevated space where I meet clients and recharge creatively. We’d tuck into an alcove with tea and talk about life, design, and everything in between. Whether we’re having a slow lunch upstairs or just watching the light shift over the coast, it’s a place that brings out your best ideas and your deepest conversations.
Later in the week, we’d escape to Topanga for a change of pace—hiking the canyon trails, vintage shopping at Hidden Treasures, and having a long, dreamy lunch at Inn of the Seventh Ray under the trees. Back in Santa Monica, we’d spend a full afternoon on the sand—sun-kissed, and margarita in hand. It’s the perfect contrast: Proper’s refined beauty, Topanga’s wild spirit, and the beach’s quiet simplicity. All together, it’s everything I love about life here—thoughtful, soulful, and a little bit golden.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without question, my mom. She’s the reason I started this journey in the first place. When she passed away, I inherited jewelry that was deeply meaningful but didn’t reflect who I was—so I began the process of redesigning it. What started as something deeply personal and healing slowly grew into a business rooted in storytelling, connection, and transformation. Her memory is woven into every piece I create.
I also have to give credit to my friends—especially the ones who trusted me in the early days with their own heirlooms. Their belief in me helped shape the business into what it is now. And finally, a quiet shoutout to every woman who’s ever opened her jewelry box and felt unsure what to do with what she’s inherited. This work is for you.
