We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Cobbs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Initially, I thought having my own business would mean freedom 24/7, but I was definitely wrong on that one.

My mom was actually the one who started the business in the beginning. She continues to inspire me! In 2020 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, so along with helping her through the early stages of that process, I ended up joining and we eventually turned the business into “Magnolia Roots Marketing & Media”

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I definitely attribute my success today to 15 years of working dreadful retail jobs. I was stuck in a cycle and afraid to try anything else.

But then I met Tucker, the first manager I ever had who truly supported me. She adjusted the schedule so I could keep my job, drive up and help my parents while my mom was in chemo, and even helped me when I was juggling too much.

Now, I get to run this business alongside my mom, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom! Karen Waddington. This business is a team effort and without her, there would be No business at all.
