Meet Kattie Bachar | Licensed Psychotherapist and Adjunct Professor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kattie Bachar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kattie, what is the most important factor behind your success?
More than anything, relationships are the most important factor, both in terms of business and as the reason why I do this work. I approach therapy in a relational way and believe that connection with others is one of the most critical parts of this life, aside from human essentials as described by Maslow. Relationships have shown me my blind spots, gotten me jobs, created referral sources, and nourished me in a way that my previous path did not.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I think what sets me apart is a healthy dose of self-doubt and conviction. I strive to find the balance between flexibility and decisiveness because too much of either self-doubt or conviction can lead to rigidity which is the antithesis to what I am trying to achieve. Through a process of accepting myself, I am dedicated to accepting others. I view my life and career as opportunities for life-long learning and betterment.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Santa Barbara and also Los Angeles. Assuming they are staying with me in my town north of LA, we must get Mexican food at least once (I love Carlitos!), take a slow walk through the Mission Rose Garden, stroll around the Funk Zone and State Street, hit Old Town Goleta’s many vintage stores, and check out live music at Soho or the SB Bowl. The best part about Santa Barbara is the slower-than-LA pace, the beautiful landscape wherever you are, and the friendly people in unexpected places. Sometimes my favorite encounters with locals are simple exchanges when buying coffee or passing someone on the street.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to Bren Fraser and PatrickLyra Wilder. These two people have shown exceptional mentorship, given me the tools I need to flourish, and are all-around wonderful people and therapists.
