We had the good fortune of connecting with Katy Foley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katy, how do you think about risk?
I believe that everything in life is a risk. Including the safe things. There is no security in anything so why not do what you love? Jim Carey spoke about how his Dad would’ve been the most amazing stand up comedian but went for the safe job instead. He got let go and they struggled. It really spoke to me. Life is too short to not pursue what you love, even if it is not “safe”. The thing I love about my career in entertainment the danger. I am always on my toes, pondering what’s next? And it keeps things fresh because I’m constantly surprising myself what I get to do. From making a rap video to hosting on red carpets to writing for Snapchat. It’s constantly evolving and I love that. You cannot play safe in this industry otherwise you’ll have nothing to gain. I think this is true in life as well.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My goal is to make people laugh with my work. Life is stressful and if my work whether it’s something I’m acting in, written or producing can help someone escape their day to day I’ve done my job. The industry has kept me happily employed print modeling, hosting, working commercially and in horror and more dramatic pieces in film and tv. And I’m grateful for that. But my goal has always been to show the industry that I can make a dent in comedy. It’s my passion and it what I truly feel I’m best at. I cannot cry on cue – don’t ask. Unless you have eye drops like that contestant on Love is Blind. But I can give you the tears of a clown. In order to fulfill this piece of me, I create my own work. I produce and write comedy sketches both on stage and on film. I also produce immersive theater using these themes. And I write features and pilots that I’d like to see. This has kept me going. I’ve never relied on anyone to get me the work I deserve. I believe in taking that on myself with the help of my team of reps who support me. This has kept me going and is the reason I make a living as an artist today.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way is to not give up, find comfort in the discomfort, and be open to anything that comes your way if it could be for you. I want the world to know my brand is about providing a means of escape.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I definitely was a concierge in a past life. Love traveling. And I’m very invested in showing people great experiences wherever I land. I currently live in Los Angeles. If a friend was visiting I’d spend two days exploring the west side from beach time and wine tastings in Malibu finished by a nice dinner. And another day exploring Santa Monica to Marina – cycling the strand and landing at a fun happy hour. Perhaps kayaking in the marina at some point. Then I’d spend another day showing them Hollywood, Los Feliz, and silver lake visiting some of my favorite haunts including El Compadre, Figarot Bistrot and window shopping on Vermont. Perhaps taking a hike at Runyon in the morning. Finishing off with a sunset horseback ride at Griffith park and then we’d get a night cap downtown or a nice dinner perhaps at cha cha cha. I love exploring Los Angeles there is so much diversity between the areas. You can get anything you want.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mom, Donna has always been my inspiration. Her intelligence, her bravery, her work ethic and her kindness has always been amazing to me. She was one of the first female public defenders in Chicago. It was very much a boys club and she has held her own. I look up to her.
