We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Hunt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla, how do you think about risk?
I think risks are a big part of making things happen in life. It tests our dedication and faith in ourselves and our ability to stay consistent and achieve our goals. I think some of the best things I’ve experienced was due to taking risks and believing that certain things are meant for me. For example, believing in my music and sometimes spending my last to attend performances, castings, and events was a risk I was willing to take to expand and elevate in my career, and most times these things paid off because I was willing to sacrifice to make It happen. A lot of times all you need is faith and dedication to win, and a lot of people notice and feel that energy, and the support you have in yourself allows others to feel that same way. Even when I feel skeptical and scared about taking certain opportunities, I think about the fact that I’m supposed to be in the rooms that I’ve been invited in and It motivates me to take those risks.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a Singer/Songwriter and Recording Artist and I’ve been doing music and making songs since I was a kid. It started with small songs and little things that allowed me to express myself and feelings and eventually grew into what It is now. I think what sets me apart as an artist and a person is that I’m humble and allow myself to turn my feelings into a story. I allow my supporters to visualize the situations and emotions that come with life experiences. It definitely wasn’t easy to come out of my shell especially since I hold my music and emotions so close to me as well. I’d say I’m a reserved individual and only my most trusted friends have seen the closest thing to the real me, so being able to share things that have made me cry or feel a certain way haven’t come easily to me but I found music as my outlet. Once I figured out that music could be used to channel my inner feelings, It never really stopped. I think a lot of the credit goes to my creative friends, because they really push me and inspire me to continue to invest in myself and my craft. When I hear their music and see where they’re going in their careers, It inspires me to continue to push forward and I feel like I can get to where I need to be in my music journey. I can’t say that I’ve always felt this way though, I often feel like I’m not moving in the direction that I want to as fast as I want to but I realize I have my own journey and the universe will allow me to get where I need to be when the time is right, so in the meantime I’m gonna be a fan to all my friends and family who are doing their thing and push their music as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Bay Area is a place that holds so much culture and history, so I’d honestly start by taking them to Union Station Dispensary and smoke lounge in the city. A few of my friends are from out of state and the weed laws are completely different than here in California, so I’d want to expose them to something different than they’re used to. I’m passionate about the cannabis industry so being able to bring my people into a complete different world is super fun, and Union Station is a completely different and pleasant experience they’re like family there. After we get medicated we definitely have to eat, so depending on what they like we can go to some Mexican food places in the mission, or we could go to this amazing spot in Berkeley called Sea Breeze that has the most amazing clam chowder bread bowls that I’ve ever had. I’m very picky especially about eating clam chowder, but these bowls are something that I don’t see myself passing up. I’m definitely more of a homebody, but I love seeing views that remind me that I’m grateful to experience the things in life that I do, so I would definitely find a coupe view points where we could enjoy our meal and probably smoke again. On the weekends I enjoy the nightlife in Downtown Oakland, so I would definitely do some bar hopping with them and show them the Bay Area culture and after hours food spots that we have out here. I like to really just enjoy the company of my friends and introduce them to some chill and memorable experiences that they’d probably enjoy while out here.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to every single person I consider to be a friend or supporter of my music and my goals. I feel like I hold so many of these relationships so close to my heart, but a lot of the time it’s hard for me to express that at times, so I want to take this time to thank and appreciate every single person who takes their time out to stream my music, watch my music videos, and reach out to me to let me know they support me. It means so much to me and at times It keeps me going when I feel like I’m moving statically.
