We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Kane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, how do you think about risk?
Risk-taking is necessary when it comes to entrepreneurship. When I first started my small business, Little Luxe Vintage, I just WENT FOR IT. One day I had the idea and then started making moves for it to become a reality. I didn’t spend too much time getting caught up in the logistics. There is a huge aspect of fear when it comes to starting something yourself and the one thing I’ve heard universally from business owners is that you have to be fearless and go for your dream! The mentality that I’ve always stuck to is, “You don’t know until you know.” If you don’t try it, then how will you know if it will be successful? Risk mentality changes when your business develops but over time you learn how to make strategic risks from past experiences. If you are thinking about starting a business, DO IT. See what happens, learn, and grow.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve always had a passion for fashion which is evident from my main page @kaylakane where I work as an influencer/digital creator. I get a lot of my inspiration from vintage pieces, Roman/Greek art, and designer fashion. There is such a deep history that comes with vintage designer that I’m drawn to. Growing up, my family didn’t have a lot of money and I couldn’t afford “luxuries”. It was this unattainable thing that I would read about, watch online, and see in store windows. There’s this power and confidence that comes with wearing Prada, Louis Vuitton, Dior, etc. and I wanted other people to feel like they could invest in their style as well as themselves without breaking the bank. So that’s when Little Luxe Vintage was born. My goal at Little Luxe is to make luxury items attainable for ALL people as well as re-shape the way society thinks about designer jewelry. I recycle and rework designer vintage pieces to give them a new life. One thing I’ve been very proud of that has also been a challenge is that Little Luxe caters jewelry to both men and women. Everyone deserves a little luxe in their life!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would absolutely take my best friend on a trip up and down the California coast! We could start in Mendocino, CA, and spend a day up in the trees and on Seaglass Beach. Then we would make a stop in SF to take a boat ride under the Golden Gate bridge and eat some AMAZING local food. Next, we would stop in San Jose, CA my home, and of course, go to Google headquarters (it’s the Bay Area how could you not?). After, we would stop in Santa Barbara for a day on the beach and maybe a late afternoon picnic in front of the Old Mission. Lastly, we would stop in LA and San Deigo for some sightseeing and more good food. It would be QUITE the trip!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout my mother for helping me navigate the small business owner space. She was apart of a few start-up companies and has always supported my own entrepreneur journey. She is a true boss babe!
