We had the good fortune of connecting with KeAnna Goodin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KeAnna, what’s the end goal, career-wise? Where do you want to be professionally by the end of your career?
At the end of my career, I want to be well established in this industry, whether that is an Emmy and Oscar nominated actress, writer, producer or director. By then I’d establish close relationships and worked with a few of my favorite actors/directors i.e., Kerry Washington, Ava DuVernay, Regina King, Viola Davis, just to name a few. I’d also like to have an established television series, written by me and distributed though a network such as Netflix, HBO, and Amazon. My end goals for this year are to remain consistent in auditioning and booking various projects. Establishing connections with the big players who create opportunities for the next upcoming actor. The ultimate goal is to reach EGOT status and give back to other actors who want that same opportunity.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am the jack of all talents. I am currently working as an actress and started to write my first web series. In order to be successful, the idea is to create your own content and be seen. As an actor, you can have the talent but you definitely need to have the connections, in between auditioning and working, I attend networking events and connect with other talented artists to support their upcoming projects as well as get the tea on what has worked for them and getting to the next level. I am excited about being able to create an audition from home without having to make the drive. I am proud of myself for being able to balance my acting career, working a 9-5 and being as prompt when it comes to audition requests. Staying focused is a huge accomplishment in itself, when you also have to tend to personal matters. I have to give flowers to my mother for where I am today. Years ago, after booking a few background gigs, she found me an agent and took me to acting classes that allowed me to flourish my talents. It was not easy then, being young and starting in the industry with no knowledge of where to start or who to reach out to was the challenge. That experience has taught me to be more self-sufficient and not to be afraid to ask questions. A lot of times, your counterparts won’t share information due to the competitive nature of this business. The lesson in that is literally the statement, “closed mouths don’t get fed.” And that has allowed me to overcome challenges, especially when I still look very young for my age and not being able to do certain projects, but embracing the youthful look and view it as turning lemons into lemonades.
The world can know KeAnna, as the actress in your favorite television shows and commercials for brands and companies you love, Lol. On a serious note, I want the world to know outside of pursuing my career, that I dedicate my time to giving back to those that are hit by homelessness. Not only providing essential items they may need but making them feel human with a conversation. I love what I do in this business but there is so much more to unfold in life and I am striving to become a humanitarian, the world needs more healing and love.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc. In your view what are some of the most fun, interesting, exciting people, places or things to check out?
The best place to take my best friend in Los Angeles area is any place with food. It’s LA definitely have to start early. 11am we’d grab breakfast spot in DTLA called Prank bar, around 1pm we’d walk along the Venice beach for a few hours. By 4pm, we’d go to a spot called Busby. Gosh, there are so many places. I think the best area is DTLA near the Staples Center. Attend a show at the Pantages there, visit selfie museum, do the famous tour shuttle.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I appreciate everyone who has been with me since day one on this journey, I give thanks and a shoutout to my family and friends. Thank you for being a reader for my auditions, emotional support and keeping me grounded. I’d like to shoutout iTapeLA, Crystal Lee Brown for providing affordable coaching services and a space to do self-tapes. I’d also like to give credit to Michelle Williams book, “Checking In” for providing an insight into mental health and for providing a platform that promotes self-awareness and accountability when it comes to mental health and allowing yourself to have a moment. At the end of my day, I am always “checking in.” Thank you.
