We had the good fortune of connecting with Keary (Honestly Khari) Johns and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keary (Honestly Khari), why did you pursue a creative career?
The freedom I found in making music helped me become a professional. The benefits to my mental health has been amazing. And it’s helped me obtain over 40,000 streams on my first project so I’m extremely happy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I make music that doesn’t follow a genre. I focus on a feeling and what needs to be said. The only thing you will see consistent in my music is my harmonies and expression of rap in the verses.

I got to get my understanding on harmony in a professional acapella group named “Acasola” for years. I learned how to rap from freestyling with the homies over the years. I learned songwriting from writing songs in church. That has helped shaped my art to what it is today.

One lesson I learned is that you can never give up no matter what. There are so many ways to make money in art, so when one door closes, another will open!

I want the world to know that Honestly Khari is coming with some heat this next year. Stay tuned.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to silver lake to hang out , eat and see some modern day art culture on the west coast! I would also take them to the SGV mountains! And to Pacoima and Lancaster for them to see where some of my family is from. 💯 Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout God for always being consistent when I haven’t! Also my mother for holding it down.
