We had the good fortune of connecting with Keith Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keith, what inspires you?
Love. Cheesy, yes I know, and I’m probably going to say love forty more times but it’s true, Love! I love to love! I even have a tattoo of a heart on my arm, so what does that tell you. Now that doesn’t always mean I need love reciprocated, but I believe that one of my purposes and a major reason why I’m here, is to be able to demonstrate love. Everyone has their own interpretation on love, but to me, if I can impact at least one person a day, everyday, then my belief is fulfilled. Whether that’s providing warmth, an ear to vent to, a shoulder to cry on, share a laugh with, or just sit quietly so they have a safe physical presence near, that’s what I stride to be. I can say this wholeheartedly, it wasn’t until this past year when I finally knew what it meant to love myself. I was never able to view myself the way others did. Never understood why people liked me, wanted to be my friend, thought that I was cute, talented, funny. It always seemed so fake to me, but in reality, I never saw myself as those things because I never truly loved myself. Now, that I do, it gives me the capacity to welcome others in and to provide what others need. Bottom line is, I know what loneliness and emptiness and wanting to give up; I know what that feels like… and I wouldn’t wish that upon anyone.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

It was a pretty normal beginning, I started in theatre while living in Philadelphia, then New York, eventually got into film and tv, and finally moved to LA. I will say, the more I continue this journey, the more my love for it grows. Every artist has their reasoning as to why they love it, but for me it’s pretty simple. As long as I can emit some sort of feeling, then I’ve done my job. I always have to remember though, the journey never stops and it wasn’t until about a year ago that a certain thought became reality, patience is a virtue. We all get those opportunities that will forever change our lives and we tend to put so much focus and energy onto that one thing, believing it’s the solution to all our problems, which it’s not.

So I’ve learned to surrender, to have patience, and to believe that what is mine, will be mine. Believe being the key word there. In order to succeed, in any way of life, you have to believe not only in what you’re setting out for, but that you are also going to achieve said goal. Then you can finally release and let the rest take its course. Like many others, there have been ups and downs in my career. The only thing that sticks with me through it all is my mentality. Everyone understands that what we are trying to do is extremely difficult, a pipe dream they call it. So I’d like to give a quick shoutout to all the artists out there because it truly takes a strong person, mentally, to do what we do.

Career wise, sure, I’m always going to take risks and go outside the box. Sometimes it works, sometimes I fail miserably. But in terms of life, and I know this may seem extreme, I believe that’s the only way to live, is to take risks. It’s very easy to fall into the traps of a “comfortable” life but really, you’re just playing it safe. I’m not saying you have to go skydiving or run with the bulls, it can be something as simple as picking up a new hobby, being more social, even getting a haircut! Anything that will take you out of your comfort zone, small or large, is taking a risk, and that’s what I’m all about! It’s nice to be able to incorporate that into my work pretty effortlessly.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is tough for me because I feel like I’m hearing about a new place every day! Instead of it being a “week long trip” can it just be a day? Great, here we go. I live in NoHo so the first thing we can do is go for a hike at Fryman Canyon. After working up an appetite, we’ll swing down into WeHo for some brunch at The Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker. The spicy truffle chicken sandwich… I mean c’mon. Next, we’ll completely skip over Hollywood and go to The Getty. Even though I have a friend who works at the MOCA, I’m a sucker for Getty’s variety and the deep rich history it provides. Due to traffic, we may not have time, but I would love to catch the sunset at my favorite beach spot, El Pescador Beach in Malibu. Time to eat again, so on our way back we’ll stop at UOVO. A glass of red wine with cacio e pepe is one of my love languages. Then to end the night, I’m perfectly content with some beer, darts, and pool at The Brickyard Pub. Don’t worry, next visit we’ll switch it up!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve had a lot of people come in and out of my life since I started this journey, it’d be hard to mention everyone that’s helped me get to this point. I will say though, within the last year, I’ve made some connections that I truly believe will last a lifetime. We’re on this journey together and that is all I can ever ask for. Most importantly, I can’t go without saying thank you to the entire family for their never ending love, support, and continuing this crazy ride with me.

Thank you Millers, Troups, DB, DF, JB, Mr. Nobody and many many more.

With all my heart,
Keith
