Meet Kaffo, the Sensei | (Rapper, Multi-Instrumentalist, & Producer)

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaffo, the Sensei and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaffo, the Sensei, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I learned recently that every day, you make a choice to do whatever it is you want to do: whether that is getting out of bed to go to your job, stay or leave a relationship, put on two socks that don’t match. Every day I wake up, I choose to make art, and that choice has never been a question for me, no matter how aggravating it is. I keep going because I want to know just how far I can go, and just how successful I can be, and I don’t want to give up before feeling like I have done as much as I possibly can to improve.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a multi-disciplinary rapper, producer, and songwriter, and what sets me apart is my eagerness to question the happenings of the world around me, and explore themes in a way that no one else really can. My perspective is very much my own, and I encourage others to think about what is happening in their mind, and in this world, a bit differently. encompassing a variety of sounds, flows and topics presented in a way that only he can create. My core sound is hip hop, but I will often infuse soul, jazz, rock, or whatever else I deem necessary to create a successful vehicle for my message to travel. My success up to this point can be largely contributed to the fact that I have an authentic sound that I refuse to waver from, and I feel that people resonate with the genuine nature of my delivery. It excites me to hear someone say after shows “I’ve never heard someone phrase that how you’ve phrased it” or “you’ve got some funny lyrics” or “I appreciate you shedding light on this”; these responses are what excite me to make the music that I make. I do sometimes feel that, with the current social landscape, it is often easy or encouraged to follow trends, but I believe that a more honest and personal product will always connect with most people. In other words, the right people will find it, and that is enough for me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I visited Brain Dead Studios on my first visit here; it seemed to be a combination of all of my favorite things (cool music, cool art, cool movies, cool vibes) and they absolutely checked all of the boxes!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout Christian Kitchens, for believing in me enough to let me borrow his couch while I got the whole music thing figured out. I want to shout out all of my friends and family who have been visible or invisible in their love and support (both have been felt tremendously!) I also want to thank everyone who has spared a few moments of time to listen to my songs, as I wouldn’t be anywhere without them.
