We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Burton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelly, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been an artist—whether dancing, color guard, painting, sewing, or working with wood, creativity has been a big part of my life. After my kids graduated from college, I found myself making more and more painted wood signs as gifts and loving every minute of it. I was even creating them at a local shop just for the joy of making! Then one day, I realized—I already had the skills and passion to do this independently. So I leaped, and that’s how my business was born!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art has always been deeply personal. I’ve been creating for as long as I can remember—whether it was painting, dancing, or working with wood. After my kids graduated from college, I decided to turn my passion for painting wood signs into a business. I found myself making more signs for gifts, and the joy I felt with each one made me realize this was something I could do on a larger scale.

What sets my art apart is that it’s not just about creating something pretty—it’s about infusing meaning into each piece. Every sign I make tells a story, whether it’s a wedding sign that represents a couple’s love, or a family sign that brings warmth to a home. I believe in creating pieces that people can connect with, and I love knowing that my art becomes a part of their special moments.

It hasn’t always been easy, though. There have been plenty of challenges along the way, from learning new techniques to finding my place in the market. But every obstacle has been a lesson, teaching me patience, resilience, and the importance of staying true to my vision. I’ve learned that success doesn’t happen overnight, but when you’re passionate about something, it’s worth every bit of effort.

What excites me now is the opportunity to expand into weddings, events, and retail spaces. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m always looking for ways to challenge myself and evolve as an artist.

Above all, I want the world to know that my brand is about more than just signs—it’s about creating pieces that add beauty, meaning, and connection to people’s lives. I want my art to inspire, and I want my story to remind others that following your passion and being true to yourself can lead you to places you never imagined.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting, I’d want to give them the best time ever! First up, we’d hike from Aliso Viejo to Top of the World in Laguna Beach. The 360-degree view of the ocean and all of Orange County is breathtaking—perfect way to start the trip! Then, we’d go whale watching. There’s something magical about seeing these majestic creatures up close.

If they wanted a little city adventure, I’d take them on a day trip to Hollywood and Melrose. The vibe, the shops, the stars—it’s all so exciting! But if they were in the mood for something more serene, we’d head up to Yosemite because it’s spectacular all year round, no matter the season.

As for food, I’d definitely cook them my infamous grilled maple salmon, roasted butternut squash, and garlic kale salad—it’s one of my favorite things to make! But when we’re out, we’d grab Italian at Trullo Trattoria in Aliso Viejo—it’s cozy and delicious—and maybe end the trip with a swanky meal at Broadway in Laguna Beach for a real treat.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely! First and foremost, I want to thank God for blessing me with the abilities to create and for constantly inspiring me through beauty and scripture. Every piece I make is a reflection of that gift. Next, my deepest gratitude goes to my family—my biggest supporters—who have always believed in me, encouraged me, and cheered me on through every step of this journey. And finally, a huge shoutout to The Queen Bee Networks for their encouragement in my early business days and their continued support as I expand into signage for weddings, events, and retail spaces. Their guidance and community have been invaluable!
