We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Lansdowne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelsey, what do you attribute your success to?
The lense through which I view success is that of self-compassion, authenticity, and intentionality. Success means something different to everyone, but if I’m able to experience joy and fluidity in my work, collaborate and connect meaningfully with others, explore my creativity, dive deeper into self-discovery, and have great work-life harmony, then I feel successful knowing I’ve tapped into my purpose.

Embodying a lighthearted, abundant mindset and choosing to remain flexible has enabled me to weather the highs and lows of a competitive industry. But I certainly haven’t done it alone! Success would be impossible without my strong support system. I feel grateful to work in an ever-changing, exciting field. I began acting at age 9, but prior to that, I often sat at my mother’s feet and would watch in awe as she’d perform. (My mom is an extremely talented voice actor and has always been my hero and inspiration.) I still aim to bring a sense of childlike wonder and excitement into every recording studio I’m lucky enough to enter.

I’ve learned over the course of my 20+ year voiceover career that releasing expectations and leaning into fun is where I find the most fulfillment. My purpose-driven career stems from the following affirmations: “I am enough” and “I am not my work”. It’s important that I consciously separate my worth and identity from all professional pursuits/outcomes, this is how I protect my peace and stay true to who I am. Knowing that rejection is redirection, I’m able to practice pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone through thoughtful risk taking. I’m confident that what is meant for me is already mine and so my only job is to apply myself and remain receptive so the right opportunities align with me. A long lasting voiceover career requires stamina and endurance so I advise anyone looking to pursue a career in this industry to delight in the process, stay curious, be courageous, hold on to hope, and always treat others with kindness and respect.
