Meet Kelsey Ulmer | Orange County Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Ulmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelsey, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe that the reason my photography business has been so successful is because of the authentic relationships I have created with my clients and my community. There might be more technically skilled or tenured photographers out there, but I am confident that my focus on connection and relationship building is what keeps my clients loyal and excited to work with me.

My goal as a photographer is not only to capture beautiful images, but also to create beautiful memories to go along with those portraits. My hope is for all my clients to walk away from a session feeling excited, refreshed, and loved.

There are many incredible photographers out there, but I think that my focus on connection and realness sets me apart from many of the other artists out there. I think of my clients as more than customers and truly feel connected to them in a true and authentic way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My photography is all about creating real and genuine connection between my clients and their families. There are so many different types of photography and even more unique styles, but I am so proud of the way I am able to create and capture the love and connection my clients have with each other.

Not only do I help create connection between my clients, but it is also incredibly important for me for my clients to feel comfortable with me and to have fun. This type of connection has always come easily for me and it feels so good to be able to utilize this skill when running my business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a huge lover of the outdoors, so with a week long trip, I would plan fun activities around that! Luckily, Orange County has no shortage of stunning outdoor locations.

One of the biggest perks of my job is that I get to scout out and find some of the most beautiful locations in the county. Here is list of some of my favorite spot to take in views or go on a hike:

1. San Onofre State Beach
2. Heisler Park in Laguna Beach
3. Riley Wilderness Park
4. Crystal Cove State Park

I am also a lover of awesome vegan food, so here are some of my must go places for great vegan eats:

1. Seabirds
2. Goodtown Doughnuts
3. Gracias Madre

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would absolutely not be where I am without all the love and support I have received from my family, friends, and community, but my husband in particular as been my biggest supporter!

When I had the idea to become a photographer and start this photography business, he had no hesitation and trusted my passion and vision. Not only was he able to financially support our family, allowing me to jump right in right away, but he continually provides me the encouragement to keep learning and pushing myself and my business to grow. When I am feeling insecure or overwhelmed, he reminds me of all that I have built and all the wonderful ideas I have to still create.
