Meet Kendall Goodman | Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendall Goodman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kendall, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking has probably been the most pivotal action taken to get me where I am today as a songwriter. This looks like: sending that one song to that one person who might just listen to it and who could give it a life off the hard drive, pitching song ideas to an artist or their team to land the session, or even posting silly videos and putting my music out there to catch the right attention. These risks have been met with either acceptance and rejection in my experience, and both responses helped me move the needle in some way! Intention is huge here on when I’ve felt good about taking the risk, but it has also paralyzed me into not taking any action… so I still sometimes have to filter myself (alone or with my team) on when it’s worth a shot!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Sessions everyday (sometimes twice a day- although I’ve tried being more intentional on when I allow that), recording vocals and traveling for writing trips. When I’m passionate about an artist I’m working with, I’ll take the extra time to help with vocal production, project ideas and shooting content! Connection is the number one motivator for me staying busy. Being able to connect with Music, with stories and with people from different backgrounds is so life-giving that I fill my life with it as often as possible. If I have a free day, I usually write alone over splice loops or beat packs that producers have sent in need of hooks or full topline.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love taking friends to great coffee shops and restaurants (I love my neighborhood Portland brew East and Noko). Definitely would offer them pancakes from Superica and walk them around 12 south (and hope to see influencers in the wild). My ideal chill night out is going to Urban Cowboy for fire pits, Roberta’s pizza and awesome drinks. Hiking at Percy Warner or walking around Shelby Park is my dog’s favorite of course, and I’ll for sure hit a Sunday pop up market around town
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people to credit here- Milk & Honey mgmt was my last internship in college where Peter Coquillard, Lucas Keller, and Shelby Yoder really gave me insight into songwriting as a career. Sean Pace introduced me to Bruce Kalmick and my team at Why & How mgmt, and they introduced me to Evan Bogart at Seeker music for publishing. (Special shoutout to Dylan Silbermann and Allie Petko for championing me daily!) My family and friends have always encouraged me in this wild dream of mine which I do not take for granted. My co-writers and collaborators are always deserving of credit for the work we’ve put in together and our belief in one another. The list really could go on and on.. my husband, my dog, etc 🙂
