We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Saylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My work life and social life both cater to my love of leather in a pretty cohesive manner. Whether it’s getting a group of friends together to attend a day at San Francisco’s Folsom street fair or other events like Off Sunset Festival, Torture Garden,Crusie LA andBar Sinister, Soft Leather, friends and leather fashion are always involved.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
saylorbone is a handmade leather apparel & accessory house. It’s a take on s&m/grunge aesthetic influenced by avant-garde fashion. It is the accessory that takes accessorizing to the next level.I have worked for some amazing S&M Brands that have given me the tools and the knowledge I have today. It wasn’t easy but with the help of friends and family they have always helped me overcome the challenges at hand. Lessons learned: anyone can work their way up into the fashion industry, but raw talent comes from within you. Sometimes it’s better to step out of the conventional world and drive that passion. Invest in yourself.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Want to Shout out Regina (FemHaus LA) , a graphic designer and my collaborative business partner for making our new collection Drip come to life with her beautifully painted line work. I’d like to thank Jolene, Queer Bar buiness owner of Jolene’s in San Francisico, for always hosting Saylorbone at their Folsom Street fair event. Nik Kacy, a leather footwear and accessories designer. We connected on our love for leather accessories. It was an honor to be a featured designer in Equality Fashion Week. Damion, my professor at Academy of Art University, I wouldn’t be as far along in my career without your footwear and handbag courses. You are a great mentor and teacher. Adrienne, the woman who birthed me, the one who always will support me through and through, my biggest number one fan, my mother. And to all my friends and family who have been there over the years.
