Meet Kennedy Johnson | Freelance Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kennedy Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kennedy, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work balance life has changed over the last three years of owning my business. In the beginning I was giving my work, all of my attention which led me to neglect my body, mind and soul, and I realize how important that is for my business. My routine now is set up to get up in the morning around 5 AM and from 5 AM till about 10 AM. I focus on myself I go worked out, meditate and journal and then at 10 AM. I start work and I’ll work until about 6 PM. I do usually work a little bit afterwards but I make sure that it doesn’t exhaust me. Because I do think the work/personal life has to be balanced an order for your business to be successful.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Art is extremely important to me. It has helped me get out of the lowest point of my life. Photography kind of came into my life right now unexpectedly. I’ve always enjoyed photos and had a passion for taking photos of beautiful places and things along my journey. When I was in college, I was going through a lot and I didn’t quite know how to express what I was feeling and I decided to take a trip to Chicago to visit my grandpa and during the trip she gave me a lot of his old cameras. And I didn’t touch the cameras for a few months, but one day I decided that it was time. I told my friend to come over and we just took pictures all day around the city of Las Vegas. And I just remember I gave me such a freeing feeling and I felt so much released at the end of it. A little bit behind the name of my business Freerelief. I wouldn’t say the journey was hard necessarily. I feel like it flowed perfectly, and it all happened how it was supposed to happen. It was unexpected, but I took advantage of the unexpected. And I’m so happy that I did so, because I couldn’t imagine a better place to be than where I am right now.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Las Vegas is an absolutely wonderful city! There’s so much to offer so many places to eat, drink, and explore. I love to start my day at Red Rock Canyon go for a little hike, and then after that, go to the art district and have some lunch at Tacotarian! Walk around the art district and just enjoy small business. Take some film pictures while I’m out there and then get a drink at Rebar!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh, I would love to first shout out my friends and family for always supporting me without that my business would be nowhere. A lot of my business is now ran off of referrals. I think it’s extremely important to build a strong and meaning relationship with the people you meet because you never know where that can take you or what you can do to help them out. I also would love to give a shout out to a very special booked me a call Creative Calling by Chase Jarvis. It has helped me when I have dealt with imposter syndrome throughout my journey. So just keep on going and figuring out ways to get out of that phase is also helped me elevate my business numerous amount always. Whether it’s my relationship with my clients, how to believe in myself, and also how to market myself better.
