We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenza Mouahidi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenza, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I used to be the kind of person who would give an excessive amount of energy to do the work, until I learnt a hard lesson. Burn-out and exhaustion are a reality in our fast-paced society, so finding your own balance is key to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The importance of sleep, good meals and physical activity are known to be primordial, but we tend to forget that spiritual practice and social interaction are also tools to be deployed to maintain a meaningful path.

That said, work life balance is specific to the individual, and each of us must find our own routine.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I grew up immersed in two cultures – French and Moroccan – and as an adult I have added a third – American.
I have always loved to travel and explore other worlds, and so I found myself drawn to learning new languages.
I was born in Casablanca and raised in Marrakech. I attended French schools, spoke Darija (Moroccan dialect arabic) at home, studied English, Classical Arabic, Spanish and Italian, and now pursue my acting career in the US.

It has not been easy but the rewards have far outweighed the pain.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love New York as there is something for every interest and every budget.

I would take my friend on a walking tour of Manhattan: the Village for its charm, the Lower East Side for its eclecticism, Soho for its sense of fashion, Midtown for the Broadway scene, and of course the natural beauty of Central Park. We would check out the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the NY Historical Society, the Museum of Modern Art, the NY Public Library, to mention a few…

For entertainment, we would hit Broadway, Jazz Clubs like Birdland and the Blue Note, and for cinema, IPIC in the seaport, the Film Forum and Angelika theaters.

There are thousands of place to eat and drink; a few of my favorites include:
A slice of NY pizza at Santa Lucia, L’industrie or Scarr’s
the Crosby Hotel for its tea or drinks in Soho,
Kazunori maki bar in Union Square
Brunch at Russ and daughters on Orchard Street
the Lobster Place at the Chelsea Market
the Oyster Bar at Grand Central
Aldo Sohm wine bar, in midtown
Chinese Tuxedo, a former opera house in Chinatown
Gramercy tavern for cocktails and high end bar food (and their three course menu is exquisite)
Estiatorio Milos in the Hudson Yards
Manhatta for the view and its delicious cuisine
Le Gratin in the financial district for Lyonnaise cuisine
Le Pavillon for its menu and feng shui vibes
Le Coucou for its perfection
House of the Red Pearl for its warm beauty and Cantonese flavors.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many people I need to thank for where I am today, too many to list in full. At the top of this list however, are a few people who have gone above and beyond in their support. My family and my closest friends have probably been the most impactful in my evolution. And my mentor, Aissa Agostini, played a particularly important role in helping me find the courage to follow my dreams.
