We had the good fortune of connecting with Keyara Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keyara, what matters most to you?
It’s hard to choose just one but the most important morals/ principles to me are INTEGRITY, Authenticity, loyalty, and honesty. I believe if someone doesn’t have any values or principles then the internal navigation we were all created with becomes foreign to us and we can’t truly thrive and fulfill our journey here.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I became a licensed esthetician in NY & CA. I specialize in brow artistry. I also offer holistic facials consisting of facial massages, lymphatic drainage and more. One of the biggest services I offer is the “Buccal facial”. In 2020 I stopped working for companies and decided I was going to follow my passions & work for myself. With the help and encouragement of my husband he pushed me to overcome my fears and that’s when my business KA ESTHETICS was born. Two years later I opened my spa in Westlake village CA. I sacrificed a lot to get here. We moved across the country to put some action behind our visions. It was not easy and even till this very moment it’s still not easy, but it’s worth it. Everything I’ve experienced has prepared me for this journey in business. I overcome times of challenge by staying in a state of AWARENESS, showing myself grace, positive self talk, exercising, and breathing. Hard times build character and I know that this is only apart of my story. It’s not so much as to “what sets me apart from others” I believe my intention with KA ESTHETICS is just very pure. I just AM . I’m not in competition with anyone or anything. I’m proud of how far I’ve come. I made it out of environments that are hard to leave and systematically designed to keep people trapped. I’m proud of the strength that I’ve developed to release old ways of thinking to be able to progress to where I’m at now. I’m excited about about the present moment, in this moment I’m creating the life I desire for my family and I. I’m exited to help and build relationships with my clients, teach others, and travel the world to continue to learn. I’ve been in the industry for 8 years. In those 8 years I did lots of unlearning and shedding of old layers in my personal that also reflected onto my areas we professional life. Since a little girl watching my grandmother take care of her skin I was fascinated with skincare and how the skin worked. Fast forward to a few years ago while Spending time in nature it led me to realize I have a deep passion for herbalism, essential oils, holistic practices, nutrition, health and how it’s all connected as a whole. One day I had a epiphany and realized that Mother Earth gave us everything we needed to heal ourselves internally and externally. I then realized that the same applies for healing of the skin, and that all skin alignments are just the symptom and not the true issue at hand. I chose to become devoted to studying ways to heal the skin using alternative methods. At KA Esthetics I will stand apart from other spas because I want to get to the root cause of the issues your having instead of masking them with machines, and topicals only. Don’t get me wrong those things help, but I believe they are overused and acts as a Bandaid in the skin care industry. I think of it as a analogy. I like to take the Bandaid off and actually see what caused your issues and heal it so you have the tools and knowledge to prevent it in the future. I want people to not only see KA esthetics as a spa to come in for aesthetic purposes but also a place where you can come learn and leave with better lifestyle habits. There are many lessons I’ve learned along the way, a few important ones would be that my past doesn’t define me and that everyday I wake up is a opportunity granted to me to shift my reality. PATIENCE. That word holds a lot of power and is a lesson in itself. I want the world to know that everything you see with me is authentic. I’m passionate about my craft and dedicated to truly learning and evolving.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them on hikes to get out in nature, go to a botanical garden, take beach trips and get a nice tan, drive up and down the coast by Malibu which has some of the best views. I would definitely take them to a bath house for massages and facials. I would also take them to get some acupuncture and grab some tea. It’s literally the most soothing experience ever. I would take them to the best vegan restaurants in town. Pura Vita is my favorite. Nic’s on Beverly& crossroads are also amazing. We would go shopping and hit up a few vintage clothing spots. I’ve only been in cali a year so definitely still exploring myself.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I really want to show appreciation and gratitude to my loving husband and daughter who are my backbone. They have been by my side through every step of the way. They are my biggest support system and the most important people to me on this earth. I want to thank my inner child, little keyara for always being strong, courageous ,following her heart, persevering, and believing in herself through whatever circumstances were thrown at her. Most importantly I want to give complete gratitude to my angels and ancestors that came before me and always lead me in the right direction even when things didn’t make sense to me.
