We had the good fortune of connecting with Khristine Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Khristine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well thats funny because it just kinda happened . I had been teaching yoga for many years in San Fransisco and had started a donation based community called Yoga Punx and it was doing really well . But I couldn’t afford to live in SF . My Partner and i decided to move to the central coast, to Morro Bay Ca . It was an Interesting transition . I moved to SF in the late 90’s and was very accustom to city living . So when we moved it was a bit of a culture shock to say the least. but so beautiful and spacious.
I had to start over when we moved, i was teaching yoga at the tattoo shop where my husband worked at and found a few studios that spoke to me. The magic of this story is i got gifted a Yoga Studio . what ???? yeah
So I was teaching at this studio in Morro Bay and about 2 years, the owner asked if i wanted to take over the studio ….and I said yes !!!
It has been 6 1/2 years now , I cant believe how fast time flyes.
Owning a yoga studio is rewarding but also so many moving parts like any business.
the pandemic was crazy , for being a small business owner . And just recently things are getting back to normal.
So going back to the question? what was your thought process behind starting your own business? well it was fate , and I am along for the ride .
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
9th Limb Yoga Shala is rooted in the traditional aspects of yoga, bringing Bhakti , Mysore style Ashtanga, , Restorative, Hatha, Vinyasa and Meditation from the teaching in india .
Sharing the teachings of yoga and building community are important to us! We believe in a safe ,sacred space and yoga is for everyone! I think what sets us apart is the dedication to remain students ourself and continue to grow , study and serve from a grounded place.
Like i said it all kinda happened magically with getting the yoga studio , but as a yoga teacher and just me as a person . Its about service . Its about sharing and upholding the teachings from india . The stewardship ,space holding and acknowledgement of who shows up.
skill in action is one of the main tenets of the Bhagavad Gita and thats how i try to approach my business as well. It definitely hasn’t been easy but its very rewording .
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
oh my gosh there are so many !!!
the late great Wickie Stamps ( Witchy Saint Wickie) who passed away but was my first yoga student and cheerleader
and my friend, teacher and mentor Devorah Stacks and my dear friend Martin Scott who had owned the best studio in SF called union yoga .
