Meet Kid Hyim | Music Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kid Hyim and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kid, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I always knew I was different and naturally being creative was for me. I knew I wasn’t okay with the normality of earning a living and that I had to do something much bigger. Since 2014 I tried many different ways of being a creative till I finally evolved on to my current path a couple years ago. It wasn’t until 2020 when I really chose to make music my career. Music has always been apart of my life but it wasn’t until then I felt it was ready to do it and put my all into it. Though it is challenging I don’t regret making this decision in the least.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
To describe my work, all I can say is I make lit music! Its real, relatable, inspiring & much more. I can say Im still experimenting with sounds, lyrics, and textures to make it come together, but it all correlates. Though my music is broad, what sets me apart is I am being myself completely & fearlessly. This is why people love my work and want to see me keep going & in turn thats what keeps me going. Once I made the decision to do music, I went to recording school because I had no knowledge of how to make it professionally, and I was very serious about doing it. I had no one to really teach me the ropes so I felt it was the smartest way to go about pursuing it. Once I graduated I had all the tools and knowledge I needed to make it in this industry, and it was not easy at all to get to that point. What helped me overcome the many challenges was the fact I don’t have a quitters mentality at all, so I refused to give up despite what it cost me. This included sacrifices such as sleepless nights, money, friends, financial gain opportunities, and so much more. Im thankful now though because Ive learned so much along the way. I learned that everything isn’t what it seems and if you want something you can get it just got to put in the work an go for it. This is what I represent, hard work and consistency. If it’s anything I want the world to take from my story is go for what you love and don’t let anyone tell you that you cant do it. If its on your heart its yours, and everything that comes with it is for your development, wins & losses. Be patient and carry on one day at time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Music Shows! I love enjoying the come up of other artists as well as artist who have already made it in a sense. LA is full of creative events so it almost always something to enjoy. As far as food I go to marathon burger, as well as the restaurants in DTLA. Id also go visit the views, from the Hollywood sign to the observatory and other parks that are super cool. Universal Studios is also super fun and popular attraction! LA is full of culture so you’ll not only have a great time but you’ll also learn something along the way!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out TDE. Ive been a fan since I was 10 years old and always loved the idea of the freedom movement. They have contributed to my mentality immensely, carrying the same traits and ideas in which inspired me to be as I am. Kdot, Soul, Q, SZA, Rock all contributed to my personal development. I also got to credit the old school heads in hip hop. From Wu Tang, Nas, & Tribe to Erykah, Lauryn Hill and so much more. Those are my roots and from there Kid Hyim is made.
