We had the good fortune of connecting with Kikee Bah and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kikee, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I fell in love with music at a really young age. My people are from The Congo and music has always been a big part of our culture. I grew up in a very eclectic household. We would listen to all genres and appreciate each and every one of them. I remember watching concerts of one of the most entertaining singer/songwriter of all times (Michael Jackson) and seeing the impact his performances would have on people. I remember people being mesmerized by with him almost as in some sort of a trance, and I remember thinking, with my little brain at the time, this is what I wanna do when I grow up. I wanna be on stage, and touch people’s heart.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a proud singer/songwriter. Music IS and will always BE my first love. However, I have also ventured into the world of acting, I have been writing screenplays, and have been cast in multiple projects. I believe in challenging myself as often as I can and getting out of my comfort zone, because just like they say “Success is on the other side of fear”.
I love that statement and have found it to be true. I’m a polyglot artist working with some of the most talented people around and hoping to leave my marks in the world of music and cinema. Nothing comes easy, at least not to me, however, nothing’s impossible. I am living proof!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have to say that I’m a beach girl. I luuuuuuv the Marina, and Venice and spend a lot of time down there. It’s very inclusive, you get to see some of the most interesting characters on the promenade, from the snake charmer to the Wannabe rappers. It’s a really good melting pot and I love it.
I’m a foodie, so we’ll have to stop by Mercedes Bar and Grill, on Washington, get our platanos, pollo serape, beans and rice, and later have some of that Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch Cake at Charcoal.
Hmmmm….

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In my life, I have had the chance to meet some amazing people who’ve supported me in all of my endeavors and gave me the strength to do what I do. There’s a man in particular, his name is Mohammed Wattra, who really stood out from the crowd and almost made me who I am today.
The very first time I got up on stage, back when I was living in England, before I go ahead, I must say the following:
I had had a very challenging early life and needed to be guided and supported emotionally in order to be where I wanted to be. That man who had realized how much being an artist meant to me, helped me feel more confident and subsequently helped me getting over my fear of performing.
