We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiki Yeung and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiki, what makes you happy? Why?
Being with my son and family makes me happy. Making people laugh makes me happy. Steamed baths, egg tarts, steamed tilapia, foot reflexology massage, Sephora, facials, movies, music, clubbing, swimming, dancing in the bathroom all make me happy. I’m happy with the little things, like sunshine and ocean air. I also get happy with 5 star meals, traveling, and face cream samples.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a comedian, actress, producer and writer. I founded Crazy Woke Asians and Crazy Woke Asians Comedy Festival which showcased many viral Asian American comedians. We toured nationally and been featured on NBC, CBS, Fox 13, LA Times, Timeout NY and more.
I’m trained in theater and Shakespeare, I had aspirations of being on Broadway but in 90’s to 2000’s there weren’t many opportunities for Asian actors.
I’ve been performing my one woman show at Fringe Festivals, Asian cultural festivals, church, correctional center, etc.
After I had my son, I wanted to try something new and have fun. So I took a comedy class and I was hooked after.
A year later I started putting on Crazy Woke Asians shows so I can gather the funniest Asian American comedians in one room.
I think the most important lesson I learned is to have faith in something bigger than myself. My faith fueled me when things got rough and I wanted to give up. I was on a mission, so I had a clear vision what I wanted to accomplish.
I’m happy to see Asian shows pop up all around town and also the gate is a little more open for new Asian comedians.
Watch my one hour comedy special “Don’t get sick and die!”

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband. He’s very supportive of my comedy. He also cooks very well. He does laundry and washes dishes too. We’ve known each other since I was 17 so he understands my dedication to comedy and the arts. He accepts me for who I am. I’m really grateful to have him as my rock.
