We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimaya Joshi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimaya, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Diversity. I understand that people come from different backgrounds, different childhood experiences, and different ways of thinking in regards to food. Well Seasoned Nutrition is here to honor that. Love to cook or hate it? Follow a vegan diet or are flexitarian? Okay with leftovers or prefer a meal delivery service? When clients work with me they don’t have to fit into any pre-set nutrition mold. I guide people to their goal with respect and attention to the way they want to live.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The thought process behind starting Well Seasoned Nutrition was to bridge the gap between what your healthcare provider told you to eat, versus what you actually eat in your day to day life. I give people food options so they can decide what is realistic and sustainable to reach that goal. I sit with my clients and review everything the doctor didn’t have time to cover. In my appointments we delve into lab work, imaging/scans, medical conditions, and life goals one by one. We then analyze eating patterns, prioritize concerns, and identify key areas of diet change to optimize their health. Most importantly, without giving up every food they enjoy. Whether we like it or not, food is essential to our body functions and plays a large role in our society. We should make attaining good nutrition as seamless and effective as possible.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Unsurprisingly, I begin with food. To eat we would go to a food hall so they have options, options, options. Think: grand central market, the grove farmers market, smorgasbord, or corporation food hall. Next would be getting outdoors to soak up that perfect SoCal weather. Griffith Park has simple or strenuous hikes depending on how sweaty they want to get. Lastly, I’d take them to a stand-up comedy show. There are so many excellent venues big and small throughout the city. Between the pretty theaters and good laughs, I think they’ll go home smiling.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to say thank you to The Learning Garden at Venice High School. Volunteering there taught me not only so many amazing things about edible plants and urban gardening, it also helped me through some emotionally difficult times. Lead gardener David King is truly a blessing.
