Meet Kimberly Atwood | Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Atwood and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of Duck My Life is my unwavering love for hockey, particularly for the Ducks. This passion fuels my commitment to creating real, honest content that resonates with Ducks fans. I strive to differentiate my content from what’s typically seen in our small community, aiming to grow the fanbase and foster a genuine connection with fellow fans. Additionally, the support of my family has been instrumental in encouraging me to step outside my comfort zone, and the new friendships I’ve made this year have enriched my experience and motivated me to keep pushing forward.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a sports content creator with a niche focus on hockey, specifically one of the smallest market teams: the Anaheim Ducks. My brother and I founded Duck My Life, and while we create content across multiple platforms, YouTube is our mainstay. We aim to be your go-to source for all things Anaheim Ducks! As passionate season ticket holders, we deliver engaging videos filled with lively discussions about Ducks’ games, player performances, trades, and everything in between. Whether it’s breaking down the latest news, offering insights, or sharing behind-the-scenes stories, Duck My Life brings it all—with a dose of humor to keep things fun and relatable because, let’s face it, being a Ducks fan can lead to some real “FML” moments!
Despite the growing popularity of hockey on the West Coast, being a passionate fan in Southern California still raises eyebrows—especially as a woman. As someone who has always been shy, it’s surreal to think I’m putting myself out there and creating content. If you had told me ten years ago—heck, even five years ago—that I’d be running a channel like this, I would have thought you were crazy!
When COVID hit, it gave my brother and me the time to start the channel. We took a brief year-long break when things began to open up again, but since then, we’ve never looked back. The growth of Duck My Life over the past year on YouTube and other platforms has been incredible, proving there was a need for this content. I still can’t believe how much we’ve accomplished, especially considering the challenges I’ve faced this past year after a serious car accident. I broke my C2 vertebra (a hangman fracture), an injury that often leaves people dead or paralyzed. On top of that, I suffered a brain aneurysm and damaged veins. Some days it’s tough to write scripts or create content because my brain doesn’t feel the same, but I’m getting stronger every day.
Duck My Life is more than just a brand; it’s something I think about almost 24/7. My deep passion for the Ducks borders on an unhealthy addiction, for better or worse, but it fuels my commitment to connect with fellow fans through engaging, thoughtful content. I take pride in offering honest analysis and fostering a welcoming community where everyone feels included.
Navigating the sports media world—especially in hockey—comes with its challenges, particularly the negative undertones that arise when women are involved. But I’ve learned to stay true to myself and my vision. The support from my family, friends, and the Ducks community has been key in overcoming these obstacles.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the power of resilience. There will always be setbacks and haters, but how you respond is what really matters. I’ve learned to adapt, keep pushing forward, and celebrate the small victories, even through the growing pains.
Ultimately, Duck My Life isn’t just about hockey; it’s about building a community where fans can come together to share their love for the game and support each other. My story is one of passion, persistence, and the belief that we can all make a difference. I’m excited to keep growing and connecting with others who share the same enthusiasm!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Although I focus on the Ducks, as a sports enthusiast, I always make it a priority to include a sporting event when friends visit. Southern California offers so many great options! We’d definitely spend some time at the beach, soaking up the sun and enjoying the ocean. Another favorite activity of mine is going to Disneyland, so if the timing works out, we’d make sure to fit that in too. And of course, we’d dive into the area’s diverse food scene—sampling local tacos, savoring fresh seafood, exploring trendy cafes, and stopping by a few of my favorite breweries. There’s truly something for everyone!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to several incredible people who have played a significant role in my journey. First and foremost, my mom has always been my rock, providing unwavering support and encouragement in everything I do. Her belief in me has been a constant source of strength. My brother, Sean, has also been a huge driving force; he not only helps behind the scenes but occasionally joins me on screen, adding even more value to Duck My Life. His motivation keeps me going. I can’t forget my grandpa, a major figure in my life, who did so much for me growing up. I’ve always looked up to him for guidance and inspiration; his lessons and values continue to shape who I am today.
A special shoutout goes to Lacey from Double Hockey Stix, who recommended me for this interview. She was one of the first to recognize Duck My Life at a Ducks game, and in just a year, she’s become one of our biggest supporters. I’ve never met anyone outside my family who has been so encouraging and supportive. Her friendship means the world to me. Lastly, I want to recognize the amazing group of women in the Anaheim Ducks community. Over the past year, we’ve come together to support one another, and it’s been empowering. I’d like to highlight other content creators like Mighty Ducks on Film on Instagram; it’s great to have this friendship for laughs and good times in a male-dominated niche. All their support has made a big difference, and I’m grateful to be part of such a fantastic community.
